WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could abandon efforts to end the Ukrainian war within a few days, if there was no rapid progress from both Moscow and Kiev.
The warning confirmed the sudden change of US messaging, before Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio said in Paris that if peace was not “viable”, the United States would “move forward”.
Trump has been pressing both sides for a war, but Russian President Vladimir Putin has failed to get any major privileges from the Kremlin despite repeated calls with Putin and repeated talks with Moscow.
“Yes very soon,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office when asked to confirm what Rubio had said about abandoning the talks. “There is no significant number of days, but quickly. We want to do it.”
Trump also refused to accuse one of Putin, which ordered February 2022 a full -fledged attack on Western Ukraine supporters Ukraine, or Kiev’s President Wolodmeir Zelannsky. But he insisted that both sides have to develop.
Trump said, “Now if one of the two sides makes it very difficult for some reason, we are just going to say: You are stupid.
“But hope we don’t have to do it.”

Ukraine is ready to sign a deal in Washington next week, which will allow the United States to access its mineral resources.
Meanwhile, European powers are looking for a seat at the table in the negotiations, especially when the Trump administration insists that the continent should share the Ukrainian security burden.
