Hyderabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Balawal Bhutto-Zaidari on Friday warned the federal government to quit the ruling coalition on the controversial canals, and declare that “Form 47, not,” has the support of the people.
“The federal government should immediately withdraw its controversial canal project, otherwise PPP may not work with you [Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz]”The PPP chief said while addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad.
The controversial canals plan has become the backbone of a conflict between the two major political parties, which are allies at the center.
The issue is related to the federal government’s plan to build six canals on the Indus River to irrigate the Cholistan Desert. This is a project that was rejected by its central ally PPP, and other Sindh nationalist parties.
According to official sources, the cost of Cholistan Canal and system is estimated at Rs 211.4 billion and through this project, thousands of acres of barren land can be used for agricultural purposes, and 400,000 acres of land can be brought under cultivation.
Almost all political and religious parties, nationalist groups and civil society organizations have held mass rallies against the controversial plan.
The party, led by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, has repeatedly expressed reservations over the project, President Asif Ali Zardari has warned the government that some of its unilateral policies are causing “severe tension” on the federation.
Addressing a public gathering today, Bilawal pointed out that his party was the only political force that opposed these plans from day one, and demanded the government to abandon the canal plan because they would not “leave the nation”.
He noted that these projects were being imposed from Islamabad, adding that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was “still not ready to ring, and we are not ready to withdraw”.
He warned that if the election was between Shahbaz Sharif and the people, the decision was not difficult. “
He said the nation was burning in the fire of terror, and “you [federal government] A debate gave rise to the brother against the brother.
“People who are sitting in Islamabad are blind and deaf – not ready to see or hear the voices of the provinces. We are opposing these plans on the basis of principles because the federation is in danger.
He added, “What is the reason behind your stubbornness? We want Pakistan to develop and the federation has been strengthened but we cannot refrain from our principles.”
Bilawal emphasized that the vision of PPP is for equal economic growth and inflation in all four provinces. “We reject your ministries. We do not want them, we want respect. You have to accept our demands.”
Pushing the PML-N, Bilawal said, “This so-called ‘lion’ is sucking the blood of people. Every Muslim League-N project is against farmers.”
He cited the wheat scandal as an example of the exploitation of the farmers of the government and said that new tax measures are now threatening the agricultural sector already. “They have decided to remove the tax storm on agriculture. Where will the farmers of Punjab and Sindh go?” He asked.
Bilawal announced that “the economic killing of the agriculture sector is complete. He criticized the government’s plan to irrigate the deserts, saying,” Now they claim that they will green the deserts – but we will not compromise on Sindh. “
He advised the government, “You should use technology for the development of Cholistan and Tharparkar. He said,” We have suffered water shortage in Punjab and Sindh for 25 years. The crisis is real and continuing. “
Demanding the elimination of farmers’ economic hunting, Bilawal said, “If the government withdraws the controversial project, we sit and plan to develop agriculture.”
The PPP chairman warned the federal government against any misconceptions about his position, “I have neither Form 47 nor any certificate to be elected. What I have is the support of the people.”
He said, “We are political people. We are not out for personal gain. We are not campaigning for ministries or prime minister,” he said: “We have gone to the streets to save the Indus River – and to protect the federation.
