ISLAMABAD: In his message on the occasion of the International Labor Day observation today (Thursday), President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif have called for the development of skills by paying tribute to the workers for their role in the development and development of the country.
“In today’s rapidly changing world, the key to achieving a bright future for our youth and workers is in the development of their skills,” President Zardari highlighted the partnerships, struggles and sacrifices of working men and women who played a vital role in the development of the country.
Emphasizing the need to equip the workers and youth with modern skills to meet the challenges of the changing job market, the President further emphasized on governments, private businesses, educational institutions and civil society to develop a comprehensive environmental system for the development of labor skills.
He noted, “This day reminds us of the historic struggle created by workers around the world for their rights and dignity. Today, we confirm our commitment to empower them, fair wages, safe work conditions and social protection.”
President Zardari, emphasizing that the labor and labor classes are the motivators of their economy and national development, has given the workers to advance the economy.
“These are our workers who maintain our manufacturing industries, agriculture, small and medium -sized businesses, government and other public sectors,” he said.
The President also called on employers, trade unions, civil society and public sector to merely join hands in the formation of a labor ecosystem and work for the welfare and development of the workers.
He stressed, “Let’s give our workers honor through meaningful policies, comprehensive development, and a culture that respects wages in all their forms.”
‘Dignity, safety, access to opportunities’
Meanwhile, in a similar statement, Prime Minister Shahbaz describes Pakistan as a real stimulus behind our nation’s development and flexibility, along with irregular commitment to promote safe, healthy and respected conditions for his workers.
Protection of basic labor rights is included in our constitution and is fully compatible with the International Labor Organization (ILO) Core Convention, for which Pakistan is a responsible signator.
He said that in achieving these ideas, Pakistan has made significant legislation and administrative reforms to further strengthen the protection of workers.
“We have confirmed the major international labor conventions, including the 2014 protocol in the forced labor convention and the maritime labor convention, while new promises for professional safety and health have been pursued.”
He highlighted that for the first time, every worker in Pakistan benefits from national professional security and health profile, which ensures safe, healthy workplace across the country.
The Prime Minister added, “Our government has taken important steps to expand the coverage and impact of institutions such as the Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) and the Workers Welfare Fund (WWF), ensuring that our labor reservations are more important in workforce.
Through digitalization and labor law reforms, he said the government was forming a future where every worker had access to dignity, safety and opportunities.
He said at the same time, the development steps, especially through the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTAS), are being expanded, which is empowered to empower young people and women with professional training.
He added, “On this important day, I urge all stakeholders, employers, workers, civil society, and the government to include a culture that respects wages, maintains their rights, and creates decent work opportunities for all.”
