On Saturday, the major explosion from Iran’s largest trading port increased the death toll and it mobilized a major fire, with more than 700 injured.
The blast took place in Shahid Raji Port in southern Iran, near the Strait of Harmos, through which a fifth of global oil production passes.
Although the cause of the blast was not immediately clear, the port’s Customs Office said in a statement via State TV that it may have resulted in a fire that has broken down on the storage depot of hazardous and chemicals.
The New York Times has reported that a person belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, on condition of anonymity to discuss security issues, told the newspaper that what was torn was a sodium on the clureate, which is an important part of solid fuel for missiles.
State TV said that all schools and offices have been ordered to be closed on Sunday, 23 km (14 miles) away from the entire area, 23 km (14 miles) away, in the capital of Hormuzgan province, Bandar Abbas on Sunday, allowing authorities to focus on emergency efforts.
State TV said late on Saturday, “Shahid Raji Port has increased the intensity of fire and it is possible that the fire will spread to other areas and containers.”
A broadcaster reporter said the strong winds had complicated efforts to extinguish the flames.
According to the official IRNA News Agency, Shahid Raji, more than a thousand kilometers south of Tehran, is Iran’s latest container port.
IRNA images show that the carpet along with the rubble goes with a wide bowler after the explosion.
The flames surrounded the truck’s trailer and stained the blood -covered car aspect, while a helicopter dropped water on a large number of black smoke clouds, leaving the stack shipping containers back from behind.
Referring to local emergency services, State TV reported that “hundreds of people have been shifted to nearby medical centers”, while the provincial blood transfusion center issued a call for donations.
Iranian President Masood Pazeshkian expressed sympathy with the victims of the deadly blast, adding that they have issued an order to investigate the situation and the causes.
He said the believer would go to the area to see the incident.
Talking about the scene, Momini told State TV: “All other cities and Tehran’s resources have been dispatched … and we hope that we will be able to extinguish the fire in the coming hours.”
In a video posted on social media, which AFP could not confirm, a man who filmed the disaster said, “My truck was completely destroyed and my friend died”. A dead body can be seen on the ground.
The containers burst
Saturday is the beginning of the week of work in Iran, that is, the port is busy with employees.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV cited its monkey Abbas Consulate, saying three Chinese citizens were “lightly injured”.
“The cause of the incident was the explosion of several containers stored in Shahid Rajai Port Warf area,” Mehdud Hassanzada, head of the province’s crisis management authority, told State TV.
The Persian news agency reported that the explosion was so powerful that it was felt about 50 km away and heard.
According to the Tasnim News Agency, “Shock View was so strong that most of the port buildings were severely damaged.”
The United Arab Emirates expressed “solidarity with Iran” about the blast and Saudi Arabia sent condolences.
The explosion has nothing to do with refineries, fuel tanks, distribution premises or oil pipelines, “the official national Iranian oil product distribution company said in a statement by local media.
It added that “Bander Abbas oil facilities are currently working without interference”.
The blast has come several months after Iran’s deadliest work accidents in the years.
More than 50 people were killed in a coal mine blast in September due to gas emissions.
The weekly explosion took place when the Iranian and US delegation met for high -level talks on Tehran’s nuclear program in Oman. Both sides reported progress, an American official called it “positive and fruitful”.
