KARACHI: On Monday, a group of 18 Pakistani runners in the 129th Boston Marathon will pursue more than just personal Best.
Two of them will try the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon in the traditional shalwar shirt, while six others will complete an extraordinary global achievement: eliminating all the world’s major maraths.
For Danish Elahi and Faisal Shafi, the goal is to cross the final line within four hours wearing Pakistan’s national dress on one of the most difficult runs of running. No one has ever done it before.
Danish Elahi said, “It’s not just about us,” which will also get his “six -star” medal in Boston after completing the other five world marathon Majers. “When people see us running in green and white, we want them to remember Pakistan for a happy thing.”
Shafi, who dreamed of this idea, said that the record attempt was about national pride. “We are named Pakistan in history books before a flight from Karachi to Boston,” he told the flight from Karachi to Boston. “But even more, we are showing the world our culture.”
Faisal said, “The idea of running a marathon in Shalwar shirt was to represent Pakistan and to present an image of our culture on the global platform and set a world record by running a marathon to show that we are proud of our national dress.”
The couple’s extraordinary clothing already adds difficulty in disturbing race. In Mail 20, the notorious “Heart Break Hill” of the Boston Marathon has broken many runners’ feelings, and shalwar shirts – which are comfortable to wear daily – is not designed for speed. “But we are ready for the challenge.”
He said, “It will send a positive image about Pakistan and our culture. In this run, Pakistan will be presented as a peaceful country and the fans and the most hospitable and friendly united nation.”
Their attempt is after Canadian runner Prakash Benisety’s failed 2018 attempt, which loses a four -hour mark. For six Pakistani runners, Boston identified the end of a year -long struggle to complete the Abbott World Marathon Majers series: Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin, London and Tokyo.
Adnan Gandhi, who is a Karachi -based runners, traveled 250 miles in March – mostly at night with his local club SVRC. “Boston’s training during Ramadan was brutal,” he said. “But our community continued me.”
According to Adnan, those who were mostly trained in Karachi, the copy of this course was always a challenge in Karachi. “Fortunately, we have many members in the SVRC who test new routes, and in 2024 the New York marathon team created some very hard mountain training in DHA Phase 5 and 6. So we will work for your 500 meter hull to 14 times in 14 times of the night, from 10 to 14 times. Said about/
“We start before the heavy school traffic. Which means waking up to 4:30 pm a week is 6 days a week. But this is also the only way to defeat the high temperature or bright sun. For Boston, we had to run mostly at night, so it could create a lot of different types of roads, and we could create a lot of different types.
The Boston marathon will examine his endurance on the 26.2 -mile route from Hopkinton to Boylistin Street, with tens of thousands of runners and a million spectators. But for many people, the real end line is wider. “This time, maybe we can change it.”
