Riyadh: Tesla will launch sales in Saudi Arabia next month, an electric car maker revealed on its websites, showing that CEO Elon Musk and the state have refrained from taking a short -term bid in 2018 to take the company private.
Tesla is trading in other Middle East countries, but not in the Gulf’s largest market SA.
The controversy began when Musk tweeted in 2018 that it had “funded” to take Tesla private after meeting with Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty Fund, Public Investment Fund.
The tweet eventually led to a legal action by investors when the bid failed to come into action, during which text messages were made public between Musk and PIF chief Yasir al -Romeian.
Since the fall, tensions have eased when Musk played a high level role in US President Donald Trump’s election campaign and then the new administration.
Trump said he would travel Saudi Arabia’s first trip this month, calling on the kingdom in January to spend more than $ 1 trillion in the US economy, including military purchases.
The post states that on April 10, Tesla’s launch event in Riyadh will display its solar powered EVs and products.
He added, “Experience the future of independent driving with Cyberkib, and meet our Humanoid robots, Optimus, because we show what AI and robotics have ahead.”
Tesla later said in a statement that on April 11, he would open popup stores in Riyadh, Jeddah and Damm, adding that it would announce further details of Saudi Arabia’s plans in the coming weeks, which would plan to invest in 2025 and beyond.
Guests were asked by the invitation of the launch event to indicate which Tesla car model they are interested in.
The launch came when Tesla has seen a decline in EV sales in Europe, which has been accused by Musk for the support of remote politicians, and the brand has been targeted by protesters in the United States for offering clean deductions to the federal government.
In Saudi Arabia, EV sales have been slow, with advisers PWC’s 2024 report put them only 1 % in all car sales.
The Chinese giant BYD 1211.HK and PIF -backed Lucid’s EV are already available in the Saudi market.
A month after the conflict with Musk became commonplace, PIF announced more than $ 1 billion in Lucid, and became the majority investor in EV Startup seeking to challenge Tesla.
The $ 925 billion PIF has also invested in the domestic EV brand, which is still yet to be launched by the CEER.
Still, large gas goosling vehicles are made as usual on Saudi roads where fuel is cheap and EV charging infrastructure remains a fragile, making its long desert roads almost impossible in EV.
Warming relationship
In one of the first signs of improving relations, Canausture appeared with Romans and Trump in November in the UFC’s mixed martial arts match in New York in November.
A few weeks ago, Musk made a wonderful appearance in the future investment Initiative Summit of Riyadh through a video link.
An American jury found in 2023 that Musk was not responsible for misleading investors when he tweeted that Tesla was funded to take private.
Musk testified that it was a PIF that wanted to take Tesla private on posting the tweet, and during the matter, a series of tense text messages between her and the Romanian came to light.
According to court documents, Musk wrote to the Romanian in a text, “You’re throwing me down the bus.”
Despite the increase in EVS demand, Tesla’s sales in Europe have so far decreased by 42.6 %.
Workers across the United States have staged a so -called “Tesla Techdown” about the role of Musk, which guides the government’s performance, which has reduced thousands of jobs, frozen foreign aid and canceled thousands of programs and contracts.
