QUETTA: Members of the Balochistan Assembly walked out during a meeting on the abduction of a woman in Khozdar.
The provincial finance minister returned to the legislative assembly after assuring them that the matter would be resolved.
The assembly meeting chaired by Deputy Speaker Ghazala Golla began 53 minutes late on Friday. During the session, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) MPA Agha Omar Ahmedzai raised the matter at one point, and strongly condemned the abduction. He said the woman was abducted in Khosdar after the marriage proposal was rejected, and the affected family had informed the tribal elders about the incident. He further alleged that the woman was tortured before forcibly snatching.
Ahmadzai asked, “Khosdar has been blocked from Thursday. How can such incidents expect to improve the situation in the province when such incidents occur?” He also called on the Chief of Chief Jhalawan Nawab Sanaullah Zahri to take immediate notice of the incident, and not only condemn but also call social values a challenge.
Former Chief Minister Balochistan, Dr Malik Baloch, criticized the administration’s silence on the matter, and declared it out of understanding. He warned that the government’s negligence in ensuring the safety of the citizens has raised serious concerns about law and order.
After the walkout, provincial finance minister Mir Shoaib Noshrovani assured the protesting lawmakers that the government strongly condemned the incident and was determined to resolve the issue. After assuring this, the Legislative Assembly returned to the assembly.
Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umarani emphasized that the Khoshard incident is a serious matter and the Balochistan Chief Minister will be contacted immediately. He further assured that a case would be registered against the culprits.
Meanwhile, provincial minister Zahoor Balidi condemned the incident and said such activities violate traditional values. He confirmed that the police were actively searching for the criminals.
The incident has given rise to anger, which demanded speedy action to ensure justice for the victim and his family.
Meanwhile, the Quetta-Karachi National Highway was blocked for the second consecutive day as protests against the abduction of a woman continued in Khozdar. The victim’s family has vowed to continue their demonstration until they are rescued.
According to details, the armed attackers scored the walls of a house in the city of Shamd, a dozen, a hidden area near the N-25 highway, and forcibly entered the residence of a local citizen. The kidnappers physically attacked the family before kidnapping a woman at the tip of the gun.
Following the incident, the victim’s family and supporters blocked the N-25 highway at two key locations-to prevent the jailer vegetable market and Zero Point-Traffic. Demonstrators showed a sit -in demanding immediate recovery of the woman.
Khozadar SSP Javed Zahri led several rounds with the protesters, but no progress was made. The victim’s family has accused influential people of supporting the kidnappers, claiming that law enforcement has failed to take decisive action despite the identity of the suspects. He expressed disappointment that two days had passed, yet there was no progress in obtaining a woman’s release, which caused her family to suffer a lot.
Several political and social figures, including Maulana Anatullah Rodini, Safar Khan Mengal, Rice Bashir Ahmad Mengal, and Dr. Hoshoor Bakhsh Zahri, visited the demonstrators to express solidarity. They condemned the incident, and called it terrifying and unacceptable. Leaders called on the government to take speedy action to recover the abducted woman and restore peace in Khosadar.
Meanwhile, local administration and police officials have said efforts are underway to ensure a safe return.
