The country’s sports ministry (or inter-provincial coordination committee) has signed several memorandums of understanding with several countries for cooperation in the field of sports.
The objectives of these MoUs include: encouraging investment in sports; Efforts to introduce new investment opportunities in sports, sports education and trade in sports-related products; joint sporting events, exhibitions, conferences and seminars; encouraging the public and private sectors to promote sports and sports education and training opportunities; exchange and sharing of innovative experience and technologies in sports; Encouraging and supporting the exchange of statistics, information materials.
Other objectives are: holding meetings and workshops for representatives of the sports sector; coordinating advertising campaigns and engaging in other promotional activities; Establishing direct links between their National Sports Associations/Federations; participating in sporting events held in each other’s countries; performance of market research; Exchange of experiences related to the development of infrastructure projects in the field of sports; Exchange visits between experts and sports media representatives; Research and study support in sports-related fields; Exchange of coaching personnel and training infrastructure, particularly in the fields of boxing, hockey, squash and wrestling; Promote the implementation of training programs for students; and exchange of content and experiences related to the fitness of athletes and the general public.
The Government of Pakistan signed an agreement with the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1992 on cooperation in the fields of culture, health care, expert science and technology training, tourism, sports and mass media.
In 2005, an MoU was signed with Brunei to exchange information and materials in the fields of arts, culture and sports.
In 2006, an agreement on cooperation in the field of sports was signed with the Kingdom of Morocco, while a protocol on cooperation in the field of sports and youth was signed between Pakistan and the Republic of Yemen.
In 2007, two Memoranda of Understanding were signed in the field of sports with Sudan and Argentina.
In 2008, an MoU on Sports Cooperation was signed between the People’s Republic of China and the IPC for the establishment of a Sports University in Islamabad.
In 2011, an agreement on cooperation in the field of physical training and sports was signed between the Republic of Tajikistan and Pakistan. In the same year, an agreement on bilateral cooperation in the field of sports and culture was signed between Pakistan and the Republic of Cuba.
In 2013, an MoU on cooperation in the field of sports was signed between the Ministry of IPC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Mauritius.
In 2013, an MoU on cooperation in sports was signed between Pakistan and the Republic of Turkey.
In 2014, an MoU on cooperation in the field of sports was signed between the Ministry of IPC and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In 2015, an MoU on bilateral cooperation in the field of sports was signed between the Ministry of IPC and the Republic of Maldives.
In 2015, an MoU was signed between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the field of sports.
In 2015, an MoU was signed between Pakistan and Qatar in the fields of sports.
In 2019, a cooperation agreement in the field of sports was signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
In 2019, an MoU was signed in the field of sports between the Ministry of IPC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In 2019, an MoU on cooperation in youth affairs and sports was signed between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Pakistan.
In 2019, during the 19th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, an agreement on cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports was signed between the competent bodies of the SCO member states. The purpose of the agreement was to cooperate in the areas of highest achievement in sports. mass sports; sports for the disabled; Children’s Youth and Women’s Sports; education in sport; sports medicine; Voluntary Movement in Sport; sports science; Anti-doping in sport; organizing major sporting events; sports history; Training, coaching and education of staff in sports; Sports Psychology; and sports management.
The agreement was signed under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Republic of India, Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, General Administration of Sports of the People’s Republic of China, State Agency for Youth, Physical Culture and Sports. Government of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan Sports Board, Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In 2020, a cooperation program on youth and sports for 2020-2023 was launched between the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of IPC of Pakistan.
In 2021 and 2023, two MoUs were signed between Hungary and the IPC Ministry in the field of sports and sports education.
All these MoUs and agreements were for the betterment of sports in Pakistan but unfortunately nothing was achieved from all these initiatives.
The current dire state of our sports is evident from the fact that Pakistan’s sports authorities have miserably failed to take advantage of all such cooperation agreements.
If our sports authorities had achieved the goals and objectives outlined in all these MoUs and agreements, instead of just signing, the country’s sports would have received many big names and growth.
