Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shuro has warned of a potential flood in the province as Punjab rivers are on the rivers and heavy rains are being forecast across the country.
Addressing the Morning Show of Geo Pakistan on Friday, the provincial minister said that the current situation in the Chenab River has not been seen for more than a decade.

It comes at a time when the country’s Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers are facing dangerous flood levels.
The Minister said, “The situation like such a flood in Chenab has occurred after 10 to 12 years,” the Minister added that 1.1 million cusecs of water is heading towards the Trimo Barrage.
The minister said, the authorities have frequently monitored the flow of all major rivers, including Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej. “We are carefully detecting the flow of the river and preparing all the scens.”
Shoro emphasized that the option of violating the back [bunds] Not on the table. “We do not consider the violation as a viable option,” he said, adding that emergency measures are underway in all the weak areas.
He said that the provincial ministers have been deployed to monitor the back, and local commissioners and deputy commissioners have already identified places for relief camps.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Agriculture Department has canceled all staff addresses during the flood risk.
The provincial government has set up an emergency cell in the office of the Director General Agriculture in Hyderabad.
Directors and deputy directors have been appointed as focal persons in 30 districts, including Karachi, Lakana, Score, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas.
‘Please panic’
In addition, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that the overall situation in Sindh is under control as the provincial government and the city administration implement precautionary measures before the expected rains and floods.
Talking to the media on Friday, Wahab said that the Sindh government has taken all necessary steps and the Chief Minister has directed all departments involved in the emergency response.
Wahab added, “All government machinery is active and alert. Ministers and members of the Assembly have been assigned duties all over Sindh.”
He said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) completed the preparations in expectation of incoming rainfall, which included cleaning the throat drainage sites in the key areas of the city.
“The municipal services will be fully active during the rains, and the city wardens will also play their role,” he said, adding that the traffic police and wardens will be on the streets to help the movement and security.
Although the Karachiis have been emphasized during the floods like expected rains and floods, the mayor said: “If it rains, please not panic.”

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued rain warning for several parts of the country, and warned that Karachi could face a civilian flood between August 30 and September 2.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain storms are expected in Islamabad from August 29 to September 2, while heavy rains are expected in the northern and northeastern districts of Punjab on August 30 and 31.
The NDMA added that Karachi, Thatta, Sujul, Badin and Tharparkar will receive rainfall from August 30 to September 2. Hyderabad, Dadu, Score, Ghotki, Larkana, Jacobabad and Kishore can suffer rain between August 30 and September 1.
