Brazil: The Brazilian Supreme Court detained former President Jer Bolsonaro on Monday before the alleged rebellion plot trial, which identified the court’s commitment despite US President Donald Trump’s increase in revenue and sanctions.
Last week, the target of US Treasury sanctions was targeted by Justice Alexander D. Morris of the Supreme Court. The decision cited the failure to comply with the ban on the ban on Bolsarov for allegedly court of Trump’s intervention in the case.
Bolsarnaro is hearing the case before the Supreme Court on the charges that he conspired with the allies to end his 2022 election loss with left -wing President Louise Lola Da Silva. Trump has cited the matter as a “witch hint” and on Wednesday termed the Brazilian goods based on a 50 % tariff.
The US Department of State has condemned the arrest of the house, saying that Morris is using Brazilian institutions to silence opposition and threaten democracy, adding that the United States will “justify all those who will improve and refuse the approved behavior.”
It did not provide details, though Trump has said that the United States can still impose more taxes on Brazil’s imports.
Morris’ order order also banned Bolsonaro from using a cell phone or receiving a tour, except for his lawyers and people through the court.
A press representative from Bolsonaro confirmed that he was detained at a Brazilian residence on Monday evening, which seized his cellphone.
Bolsaro’s lawyers said in a statement that they would appeal the decision, in the debate that the former president did not violate any court order.
‘Clear Display of revenge’
In an interview with Reuters last month, Bolsonar called Morris a “dictator” and said orders to stop against him were “cowardice”.
Some Bolsonar allies are concerned that Trump’s tactics in Brazil are lagging behind, Bolsonaro has problems and helps to gain public support behind Lola’s left -wing government.
However, Sunday’s demonstrations by Bolsaro’s supporters-which is the largest in the months-shows that the sanctions against Trump’s Thirds and Morris have also eliminated the political base of the former right-wing Army captain.
Bolsnaro practically appeared in Rio de Janeiro on the occasion of a protest by his son, Senator Flavo Bolsonaro, in which some saw the latest test of his prevention orders.
Morris said the former president repeatedly tried to ignore court orders.
Justice wrote in his judgment, “Justice is blind, but not stupid.”
On Monday, Senator Bolsarnaro told CNN Brazil that Monday’s order from Morris was a “clear demonstration of revenge” for US sanctions against the judge, adding: “I hope the Supreme Court can break the person. [Moraes] There is a lot of turmoil.
The judge’s orders, including the arrest orders under the arrest, have been retained by a broader court.
Following these orders before the SC and a two -year investigation before the major case, which was investigated by Bolsonaro’s role in the electoral health movement, Brazil was shaken by his supporters. That is, after Trump’s 2020 election defeat, the riots in the US Capital were compared to January 6, 2021.
Contrary to the confusion of criminal cases, most of the Brazilian courts have gone up against Bolsonaro, and threatened to end their political career and fracture their right -wing movement. An election court has already banned Bolsonaro from contesting for a public office by 2030.
Another son of Bolsonaro, Edwardo Bolsonaro, a member of a Brazilian Congress, moved to the United States when the former president’s criminal trial was tried to support his father in Washington. The move said the move has impacted Trump’s decision to impose new taxes on Brazil.
‘Psychopathy out of control’
In a statement after his arrest on Monday, Congress member Bolsonaro called Morris “a psychopathy out of control that never hesitate to double.”
Trump shared a letter last month that he sent to Bolsonaro. He wrote, “I have seen the horrific behavior of the unfair system against you.”
“This case should end immediately!”
Washington last week called his sanctions against Morris based on allegations that the judge had given the powers of detention before the trial and suppressed freedom of expression.
The arrest could give Trump an excuse to pile up additional measures against Brazil, adding that it seems that Bolsonaro seems to be consciously growing, said Grazila Testa, a professor of political science at the Federal University of Parana.
“I think matters may be increased because it will be seen as a reaction to magnets,” said Leonardo Barroto, a fellow of the think policy in Brazil.
