WASHINGTON: On Wednesday, Russia was hit by an 8.8 earthquake from the east Kamchatka Peninsula, which was born 4 meters (13 feet), causing damage to the buildings and caused warnings and evacuation spread in the Pacific.

Regional Health Minister, Oleig Melkov, told Russia’s TASS State News Agency that several people sought medical help after the earthquake.
“Unfortunately, some people were injured during the earthquake,” said Melinkov.
“At this time all patients are in a satisfactory state, and no serious injury has been reported so far.”
The Russian Academy of Sciences said that targeting the region has been the strongest earthquake since 1952.
For an emergency, the Russian Ministry said on the telegram that a port and a fish processing plant there was partially flooded by a tsunami. The population has been evacuated.
“However, due to some of the center’s features, the severity of the center was not as high as anyone could be expected in such a severity,” said Daniela Chebroff, director of the Geo Physical Service’s Kamchatka Branch on Telegram.
“Currently the aftershocks are underway … their intensity will be quite high. However, a strong earthquake is not expected in the near future. The situation is under control.”

Tsunami warning continues in Indonesia
