On Tuesday, the opposition leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan demanded the Chief Justice’s intervention in the May 9 cases, after which he was declared “quick and unfair.”
Anti -terrorism courts in different cities sentenced several senior PTI leaders and lawmakers to 10 years in prison in the May 9 devastating cases last week.
In a letter, the opposition leader appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to review the conduct of all the cases issued on May 9 to ensure a fair trial and compliance with the principles of appropriate action.
He also called for the High Court for review and, if necessary, clearly reopen the trial under unfair conditions, and appealed to the top judge to “initiate a judicial inquiry into the allegations of the police and the prosecutor in connection with these cases”.
Terming the trial as “quick and unfair”, Omar wrote: “The integrity of Pakistan’s judicial process is in serious danger. These cases, which are believed to be given the example of justice, have become a source of political persecution.”
He alleged that PTI leaders, workers, supporters were “wrongly involved in a process that encourages malafide and politically”.
Omar also claimed that police reports and legal proceedings “lacked credible evidence and that they were to be ridiculed by irregularities of the procedure”.
He urged the CJP to take notice of the “prosecutor overcoming and police mismanagement, which included electoral registration of FIRS fake making, repression, and opposition statistics.”
“A fundamental right to Article 10A of the Constitution, the right to the election advice, has been put into the pan. The courts often deny the postponement and, in many cases, threaten or threaten the state advice without the consent of the accused.”
He believed that the May 9 trial was not just a legal proceedings. They are a test of Pakistan’s commitment to democracy, justice, and constitutionalism.
“If these trials are allowed to continue under the current circumstances – it has been charged, secretly, secretly and politically, for the loss of Pakistan’s judicial credibility and people’s confidence will be irrelevant,” Omar said.
The opposition leader demanded the intervention of the Chief Justice in the cases, and demanded that the courts be ordered to “take restrictions for proper hours, prohibit sessions spread till morning and cause fatigue and unfair loss.”
He also appealed to the Supreme Court to “make sure that the accused have the right to advise their choice and they are not forced to accept the state advice appointed without any consent”.
Omar also called for full media access and transparency for hearing the principle of open justice, hearing of important public interest cases. “
Prominent PTI leaders, activists and supporters were sentenced to 10 -year jail after being found guilty in the May 9 riots last week.
