KARACHI: After another body was recovered under Milan, the collapse of a five -storey residential building in the Baghdadi area of Lyari, Karachi, has been killed.
With the continuation of the rescue operations, many others are trapped.
Rescue operations are underway, officials have estimated that people ages 25 to 30 can still be trapped under the rubble. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed the death of Geo News and said that the building built in 1974 was previously declared dangerous.
The mayor of the city said, “There are more than 400 buildings that have been described as dangerous. We have two powers: either please people to leave or forcibly expel them.”
However, every government tries to please people rather than use force. Today’s unfortunate incident is proof that when the government tells you something, listen.
In Lyari, buildings are built by side. As a result, when the building collapsed, a resident of two adjoining structures-a two-storey and the other seven-storey-caution were removed. Police and Rangers have announced that residents have been urged to stay away from the site.
According to local officials, there were 20 apartments in a building in a compound. The scene was marked by chaos and suffering when relatives of the trapped victims tried to help rescue workers, disrupting operations inadvertently.
Rangers and City Wardens were later deployed to remove the area and people were prevented from approaching the site. Heavy machinery has arrived to clean the debris. Rescue personnel are using a rescue person to identify the survivors.
The equipment is deployed after cleaning each layer of debris, which makes the operation long but complete. It may take several more hours to complete the mission, officials said.
Despite fatigue, rescue workers have not taken the break, and preparations are underway to put flood lights for continuous operation after the darkness. Deputy Commissioner South confirmed that six families were living in the building at the time of the collapse.
An infected resident, whose aunt’s family lived on the fourth floor, said: “We do not know how many are still inside. Some have been saved, some have died. My aunt’s condition is critical.”
Rescue officials noted that blocking roads and disrupting a mobile signal slowed down their response. Prior to the arrival of professional teams, local residents initially began to rescue.
Investigation Committee constituted
Sindh local government minister Saeed Ghani said that action was being taken against illegal and unsafe buildings in Karachi.
“Notices are issued to the effective buildings, but unfortunately, residents are not ready to be empty,” he said. He confirmed that a high -level committee has been constituted to investigate the termination of Lyari and will present its results within three days.
The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) revealed that the collapse structure was 30 years old and was previously declared unsafe. Several notices were issued to the residents, and they were instructed to evacuate. SBCA officials, including the director, deputy director, and building inspectors, have now been suspended.
The SBCA also revealed that there are 578 unsafe buildings in Karachi, most of which are located in the south.
Minister Ghani said a tough and comprehensive policy on unsafe buildings would soon be implemented to prevent such tragedies and to help protect human lives.
He also directed the Deputy Commissioner and Rescue teams to prefer to expel those trapped under the rubble.
Condemnation
After the incident, the condemnation began, the top leadership expressed deep regret over the loss of lives.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed regret over the loss of lives and directed the Sindh government led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to accelerate relief activities.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident, and expressed heartfelt condolences over the loss of lives and expressed sympathy with the families of those killed in the incident.
He offered prayers for his loved ones and patience, saying, “I share the grief of bereaved families at this moment of grief.” Sadiq also prayed for the rapid recovery of the injured and instructed the rescue teams to complete the relief work without delay.
He added that the injured should be provided with the best possible medical care and prayers should be offered for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and the elevation of power to harm their families.
In addition, Amir Jamaat -e -Islami visited the site of the Karachi Manim Zafar incident and strongly condemned the tragic incident.
Talking to the media, he said that the protection of human lives should be a top priority, and asked the Sindh government to take immediate action against those responsible.
He claimed that all such illegal structures were taking place under the patronage of the SBCA. “It is deep and unacceptable that five -storey buildings are being constructed on only 60 square yard plots,” he said.
Zafar added that more than 100,000 buildings have been constructed in Karachi without proper approval in the last five years. He added, “It was the SBCA’s responsibility to make sure that such buildings were empty in a timely manner.”
“SBCA has become a center of corruption, and Karachi is turning into a concrete forest,” he added.
