KARACHI: Heavy shoes provided relief to the Karachiis from the heat, but at the end of Thursday night, the city was also interrupted, as more than 200 power feeders slipped, leaving large parts of the city without electricity.
According to reports, several areas of Port City, including Surjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, II Chandigarh Road, Gulshan -e -Headide, and Gadap, witnessed heavy rainfall with electricity and thunderstorms. The rain also killed Clifton, Defense, Scheme 33, North Nazimabad, Model Colony, Safora, Korangi, Landhi and Saadi Town.
As a result of short heavy rains, residents were left without electricity in many parts of the megastity.
The city’s power supply spokesman, K Electric, confirmed the feeder visits to Gulshan-Mumar, Surjani, Nazimabad, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, which led to a decrease in New Karachi, Jamshed town, the old city area and surrounding areas.
Maripur, Lyari, Kamari, Hawks Bay, and other areas of Quaidabad were also included. In the meantime, the power supply was also suspended in PIB Colony, Patch and some parts of Korangi.
Caution Shut off: KE starts recovery
Electricity has been shut down immediately in areas below, a spokesman for K -Electric said. The spokesperson noted that with the rain, the restoration work was started.
Power supply has been restored to major areas like Al-Iqbal Road, Tariq Road, Clifton Blocks 1, 2, and 6, as well as Punjab Colony, Delhi Colony, Sindhi Muslim Society, Nazimabad, Ashtar Colony, Jahangir Road, and parts of the area.
Power efficacy has further confirmed that supply has been restored in Aminabad, Nusrat Bhutto Road, and Marble Industrial area.
Although the power supply was affected at 11pm in the Defense Stage 1, it has been restored, according to the residents.
Meanwhile, Clifton Block 5 and Yasinabad residents reported a new closure in Gulshan Shimium.
Currently, uninterrupted electricity is being provided through 1,750 out of 2,100 feeders in the city, emphasizing that power supply has been restored to Gulshan-e-E-Sector S and T, Gulshan-e, PCSIR, and Karachi University Society.
Meanwhile, residents told Geo News that the power supply has been suspended in the Garden West Fawara Chowk since midnight.
Mayor Wahab inspects water situation
Immediately after the rains, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab started the fields of fields. He was accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi. He visited several areas, including Defense’s Khiban Hilal, Clifton, the South District, and the surrounding areas.
The mayor also visited the Governor House, Sindh Assembly, Supreme Court building, and Karachi Press Club as well as the Chief Minister’s House. During his visit, he reviewed the afternoon arrangements. The municipal commissioner informed them that drainage work was underway.
In a move to ensure the 24 -hour emergency response, Wahab directed that the municipal staff is on high alert and their addresses have been suspended.
The commissioner confirmed that suction pumps and personnel were deployed in the city’s lowly areas.
Provincial Minister issues emergency instructions
Meanwhile, Makhdoom Mahboob Oz Zaman, Chairman of the Sindh Minister for Rehabilitation and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), directed PDMA officials to closely monitor the rain situation across the province.
He directed Rescue 1122 teams to respond immediately to the emergency and refrain from hurting the public.
The minister emphasized the need to provide maximum assistance and facilities to the affected citizens.
