Luzon: Christie Country became the most powerful man of the game, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at a handover ceremony with his predecessor Thomas Bach.
Zimbabwean is the first woman and African to lead the body, and at the age of 41 after Baron Perry de Coberton, which has been supported by the establishment of a modern -day Olympics.
Coventry accepted the Olympic key from Bach, who is the Olympic champion like him. He won a team fence in 1976 and received two swimming gold in 2004 and 2008.
After the ruling 12 -year -old rule, Bach expressed his confidence that the Olympic movement “is in the best hands” and will bring “punishment, integrity and dynamic outlook” in the coonant role.
The Coventry, which began the first round of a crushing victory in the Greek elections in March, was bent over his family. From her parents, who was present at the ceremony in Luzon, her husband is Tyrone Seward, who was effectively the manager of her campaign, and two daughters, as the age of six, who addresses the princess, and Leila, who addresses the princess.
“Ella looked at this spider’s web in the garden and I pointed out how it was made, and how strong and flexible it is for bad weather and small critics,” Country formally took power on Monday at the time of midnight (2200 GMT).
“But if it breaks a bit, it becomes weak. That spider’s web is our movement, it is complicated, beautiful and strong, but it works only when we remain together and united.” Coventry said she could not believe how her life was developed because she had dreamed of Olympic Shiv in 1992.
He told a packed audience at a marki of the Olympic House Garden, which included members of the IOC, including he was defeated, and the honorees.
“It’s amazing and incredible, I can’t really believe that my dream of going to the Olympic Games in 1992 and winning the medal will stand here with you so that the dreams of more young children around the world can be created.”
Coventry, who served as Minister of Sports and Arts this year in Zimbabwe government since 2019, said the Olympic movement is much higher than the “multi -sport event platform”.
He said, “We (IOC members) are the patrons of the movement, who are also about to impress life and change life and bring hope.” “These things should not be taken lightly and I will work with each of you to continue to change lives and become the light of hope in a divided world.
“I really have the honor of walking with you on this journey.” Bach, who was tied to the Russian doping and his Crimea and Ukraine attacks during his time, said that he was standing in his successor with “grateful, happy and confident”.
“With their election, it sends a powerful message that the IOC is ready,” said the 71 -year -old German, who was nominated in Greece in March. “Her first woman and African holds the position, and Perry de Coberton is the youngest president. She represents the spirit of our community’s truly world and youthful spirit.”
Bach, who reduced the tears on one occasion during his volcanic speech, Coventry praised Rafers, who was widely seen as his favorite candidate for seven seven for his position.
After getting a hot hug, he supported him to “listen to and respect and respect” and praised him for guiding the movement with “pure passion and purpose”. “You’ve kept us united in a very tumultuous time.” You have left us with a lot of inheritance and hope, thank you from our hearts that he guides us with passion and never turns away from our values. “
