US Secretary of State Marco Rubio telephoned Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday and encouraged Pakistan to continue to play a role in the ongoing peace efforts with Iran due to excellent relations with the brotherly Islamic country.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, during his passionate and pleasant conversation, the Prime Minister offered good wishes for President Donald Trump and praised his Bold Bold leadership.
He also praised Secretary Rubio’s active diplomacy, which played a vital role in helping Pakistan and India reach the understanding of ceasefire and removed a major catastrophe between the two nuclear weapons states.
Premier Shahbaz added that President Trump’s positive statements about Pakistan were the most encouraging for sustainable peace in South Asia, which could only be possible by launching meaningful dialogue between Pakistan and India.
In this context, it confirmed Pakistan’s consent for dialogue with India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Indus Water Treaty, Trade and Anti -Terrorism.
The Middle East, especially Iran’s Israeli crisis, was also discussed, where Prime Minister Shahbaz emphasized the need to find a peaceful solution for this serious crisis through dialogue and diplomacy.
He said that Pakistan is ready to play a constructive role in any effort for peace in the current situation, which was deeply disturbing not only for the region, but also for the whole world.
Focusing on President Trump’s trade, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan and the United States need to work together to advance mutual cooperation in widespread sectors, including trade, investment, energy, mining, rare land metals, and IT.
Regarding security and counter -terrorism, Prime Minister Shahbaz confirmed Pakistan’s commitment to tackle the threat of terrorism from all over the country, especially from BLA, TTP and other militant groups.
In this regard, Secretary Rubio praised Pakistan’s counter -terrorism efforts and assured Pakistan of US full cooperation in countering all such threats.
The Prime Minister earlier this week noted in Washington with a very pleasant and fruitful debate between President Trump and Chief of Army Staff and Army Staff (COAS) Chief Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Both the Prime Minister and the top US diplomat agreed that the dialogue between their two countries should now be translated into concrete steps in all sectors.
Prime Minister Shahbaz also repeatedly emphasized the need for high-level engagements to increase this positive pace in Pakistan-US bilateral relations.
In this regard, he reiterated his invitation to Trump to make a formal visit to Pakistan, saying he too was waiting for him to meet the US president soon.
The Prime Minister also reiterated his invitation to meet Secretary Rubio in the early history of Pakistan.
Thanking the Prime Minister for receiving his telephone call, Secretary Rubio expressed his desire to enhance bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and the United States in all areas of joint interest.
He also praised Pakistan’s commitment to maintain its permanent efforts for peace in the region, while maintaining a ceasefire with India.
In this context, he continued to play his role in the ongoing peace efforts with Iran, encouraging Pakistan that enjoyed the best relations with Iran.
He added that the United States is bound to work with Pakistan to promote regional and global peace and stability.
