Leaders from the Group of Seven (G7) countries will meet in Canada’s Rocks starting on Sunday, as widespread rifles and global diplomacy with the United States at trade prices shaded the summit.
Although Prime Minister Mark Carney says his priorities are reinforcing peace and security, construction of minerals supply chains and creating jobs, issues such as US prices and conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are expected.
US ally Israel launched a barrage of strikes across Iran on Thursday, which was a blow to Trump’s diplomatic efforts to stop such attacks.
The summit will be held at the Mountain Resort at Kannaskas, about 90 90 km west of Calgary.
The last time Canada played the host, in 2018, Trump left the summit before declaring the then Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “extremely dishonest and weak” and directed the US delegation to withdraw the final talks.
Rolland Paris, a professor of international affairs at the University of Ottawa, who was a foreign policy adviser, said, “If Donald Trump does not interfere with the entire gathering, it will be a successful meeting.
Trump often talks about connecting Canada and arrives at a time when Carney is threatening payment if Washington does not raise taxes on steel and aluminum.
“The best scenario … is that there is no real blow to the end,” said Josh Lapsky, a chair of the International Economics of the Atlantic Council and a former White House and former State Department official.
The Carney office declined to comment on how the Israeli attacks would affect the summit.
No shared conversation
Diplomats said that Canada has eliminated the idea of traditional comprehensive common communication and will instead release the chair summary in hopes of maintaining a catastrophe and maintaining engagement with the United States.
A senior Canadian official told reporters that Ottawa wants to focus on the steps that can be together with seven members – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Canadian Senator Peter Bohham, a former experienced diplomat who worked as a personal representative of Trudeau at the 2018 summit, said he was told that the summit would continue for longer than usual so that he could be given time for bilateral meetings with the US president.
The expected guests from Sunday to Tuesday event include leaders from Ukraine, Mexico, India, Australia, South Africa, South Africa, South Korea and Brazil, who want to talk to Trump.
Bohham said on the phone, “Many people would like to talk to President Trump about his particular interests and concerns.
Working debates will cover trade and global economy, critical minerals, migrants and drug trafficking, forest fire, international security, artificial intelligence and energy safety, a senior US official said on Friday.
“The president wants to achieve his goals in all fields, including fair and mutual cooperation in US trade relations,” the official said.
In February, Ukrainian President Wolodmeir Zelannsky’s visit to the Oval Office arrived in a symbol and served as a warning of a critical dance for other world leaders in talks with Trump.
But diplomats say the frustration of dealing with the Trump administration has made itself a deepening claim.
Canada has long been one of Ukraine’s most vicious supporters. Trump came to power within 24 hours promising to end the war with Russia, but diplomatic efforts were stopped to end the conflict.
A Ukrainian official involved in the preparations for the summit said Hope had faded for a strong statement in support of Ukraine. Instead, the success for Kiev will be a pleasant meeting only between Trump and Zillski.
A European official said that the G7 summit and the NATO summit in the Hague in late June provided Trump with an opportunity to emphasize with a new European package, along with a new European package, along with a new European package to pressure Russia to pressure a new European package.
Preliminary test
Maxbergman, a director of the Strategic and International Studies Center, said Trump’s first international summit would present some preliminary clues about whether Trump is interested in working with allies to solve common issues.
“The biggest question here is, basically, is the United States still committed to formats like G7? It is about to be a big test.”
French President Emmanuel Macron has said that despite the differences on subjects like Ukraine or climate change, he has a good, but good with Trump.
Macron said on Friday that a UN conference had scheduled to work towards resolving two states between Israel and Palestinians after the G7 between France and Saudi Arabia.
