Oukmont, United States: Sam Burns resembled the third best US Open round that was fired on Okumont, shooting five under -cross 65 to gain a stroke lead after the second phase of Friday.
The 28 -year -old American made six birds against the boogie alone to stand on three U -137 after 36 holes on a punishment sequence.
Burns said, “It felt like I played really well. Today was a great day.” “Obviously there is a lot of golf left on a very tough course.”
Okimont had only two US open rounds in Okumont, less than 65, winning the final round of Johnny Miller in 63 in 1973 and Loren Roberts in the third round of 1994.
American JJ Spoon took third position with 139 with Norwegian Victor Holand after shooting 72 in the last four holes to shoot the bogies at 72.
“I was definitely anxious to come back here and see how the game would end, and it ended as a good day,” said Spoon.
“It was a true American open round, too much back, very grinding, boogies. It was still a good day as a whole. I’m still there.”
World No. 14 Holand expressed surprise at the 22nd -ranked Burns and its amazing rounds.
“Extremely impressive,” Holand called it. “It seems that you have to play perfectly perfect and there are some good breaks in your way, but it is definitely viable.”
Heavy rains spilled Okmont, for the day, 8:15 pm (0015 GMT) stopped the game for the day, with 13 golfers not yet ended their second round.
World No. 2 Rory McLearvi struggled to cut with double boogies on the first and third holes, but in the 18th to shoot the five -foot -birdpot at 72 and stand at 146, got a place within less than 60 and established a weekend.
Berson Dicumbao fired 77 to stand at 150, the first defending champion, to lose the US Open Kit after Gary Woodland in 2020.
In addition, the cut was six times the US Open Runner Up Phil Maclielson, who needed a win to complete the career Grand Slam.
At 144, there were advanced Scotti Shafler and Spain’s June Rahm seven agglifts. The shaffer fired 71 with five boogies and four birds.
The shaffer said, “It felt as if I could run away from one over today.” It could have been very bad. “
Rahm said Rahm fired 75 disappointing. “Very disappointed. I played very few rounds of golf in my life where I think I have targeted the good Putts Potts and they did not smell the hole.” With some exceptions, Okimont was delivering high capabilities of golf.
“Everyone looks like they are tired when they come only because they have a corn on their face,” said American Danny McKarti. “It takes a lot from you.”
Back Nine Starter Burns removed the 21 -foot -birdpot on 11, a six footer, with Part Three 13th and Back to Back Back Short Breddy Pots 17 and 18.
Burns responded to a boogie first with a five -foot -bird pitcher and reached the green in the fourth hole in the tap in two to apply the green in the club house, then entered the club house, and sank the ninth foot to close his era.
“It’s really difficult,” Burns said. “Sometimes the best thing is to take your medicine.” Burns, who opened his best Major in the US Open last year to end his best Major, last won the 2023 WGC match, but he fired 62 Sunday before losing to the Canadian Open playoffs last week.
Australian Adam Scott and American Ben Griffin ranked 140 in fourth.
Victor Perez of France chased the sixth hole across 192 yards, and hit the 54th Hole One in the US open history, but only the second one in the US Open in Okimont. Perez shot 70 to stand at 141.
