In response to Israeli airstrikes, in which several senior military officials and nuclear scientists were killed, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei promised new commanders on revolutionary guards and armed forces, promising continuity in the country’s defense strategy.
Iranian media and witnesses reported blasts, including the country’s major uranium enrichment facility in Nuttan,, while Israel announced an emergency in expected revenge missiles and drone strikes.
Two regional sources told Reuters that the head of the revolutionary guards, Air Space Force commander Amir Ali Hajzada, and at least 20 senior Iranian commanders, including scientists, were killed in the strike.
Following the confirmation, Ayatollah Khomeini quickly appointed new revolutionary guards and heads of the armed forces to replace those killed.
In separate orders, Khamenei nominated Major General Mohammad Pakpur to replace Salami as commander of IRGC and Major General Abdul Rahim Mousavi so that Mohammad Baghri could be replaced as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Major General Ali Shadimi was appointed commander of the Kathum Al -Anbiya Headquarters.
Below is a list of commanders and scientists who are killed:
Mohammad Baghri: Major General Baghri, a former IRGC commander, was the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces since 2016.
Hussein Salami: He was the commander of Iran’s Elite Revolutionary Guards Corps, or the IRGC commander in. Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was appointed as the head of the IRGC in 2019 by Salami, born in 1960.
Ghulamali Rashid: Major General Rashid was the head of the IRGC’s Kathm El Anbia Headquarters. Earlier, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
Amir Ali Hajizadia: He was the head of the Aerospace Force of the revolutionary guards. Israel has identified it as a central figure responsible for directing air strikes against its territory.
Ali Shamkhani: He was one of Iran’s most influential politicians and was a close secret of Ayatollah Khomeini. He was overseeing nuclear talks with the United States as a part of a committee named after the Supreme Leader for the dialogue direction.
Nuclear scientist
Fredoun Abbasi: Nuclear scientist, Abbasi, served as the head of Iran’s nuclear power organization from 2011 to 2013.
Mohammad Mehdi Tehrani: He was a ideological physician and president of the Islamic Independent University in Tehran.
The Iranian news agency also identified four other slain scientists:
Abdul Halmaid Manucheir: Nuclear Engineering, a PhD, who served as Dean of Nuclear Engineering Faculty at Shahid Behshti University and did extensive research on the performance and safety of nuclear plants.
Ahmad Raza Zolifaghari: Professor of nuclear engineering at Shahid Behshti University.
Amir Hussain Faghii: Shahid, who belonged to the Engineering Faculty at Bashti University, was earlier served as the Vice President of EEOI and the head of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute.
Motallebzadade: A nuclear scientist who was targeted and killed with his wife.
Will ‘give a decisive response’
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that in a separate development, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Argchi wrote a letter to the UN, calling the attack a “declaration of war” and called on the UN Security Council to resolve the issue immediately.
Aragchi requested the meeting that in a letter to the 15 -member agency, it was stated that Israel “has now crossed every Red Line, and the international community should not allow these crimes without punishment”.
