PARIS: Carlos Alcaraz saved three championship points when he defeated Junk Sinner by two sets in the French Open final for the age of Sunday to create a surprising fightback.
The ruler champion Alakaraz staged a rally from the brink of defeat to win the world number one 4-6, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (10/2) five hours and 29 minutes after his fifth Grand Slam.
The 22 -year -old Spaniard is now unbeaten in the five Grand Slam finals after winning 20 matches.
“It was the most interesting match that I played without doubt,” said Alakaraz. “I think everything was in the match.”
Alcaraz pulled his first return from two sets in the longest Rolland Gerros final in history, when Signner had three points of match points.
He said, “Today was about believing in myself. Never doubted myself today and I tried to go for it.”
“In these situations real champions are made.”
