India: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revised the game conditions for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, in which the additional wait period of all matches has been extended from 60 to 120 minutes.
This change is effective since Tuesday, May 20, applies to both the league and the playoffs and aims to reduce the obstacles due to the initial start of monsoon rains.
The BCCI told the franchisees, “Earlier, the match conditions had stipulated that 60 minutes of extra time was available to start the match for league matches, in case of delay.
The official added, “In the light of the current threat of rainfall and the revised schedule, the governing council of the IPL has decided that it will be 120 minutes of extra time to start the match (including league matches) from May 20, 2025, effectively.”
The update has come out after the latest break has resumed the tournament. The IPL will now end on June 3, 2025. With several cities facing non -seasonal rainfall, the governing council of the IPL has amended the match of the match for the 2025 edition, a clause 13.7.3 of the match conditions.
In an attempt to ensure the completion of the full 20 overs, especially for the remaining nine games in the league phase, the IPL has adopted the extended time, which was previously safe for play -off fixtures.
The remaining eight matches are scheduled in the evening, while the Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings match on May 25 is a one afternoon. According to the revised time rules, the evening matches that usually end until 10:50 pm, is now starting at 9:30 pm.
Similarly, afternoon games, usually ending until 6:50 pm, can start late by 5:30 pm. For a minimum of five overs, the cut -off time for the afternoon is now 7:56 pm and 11:56 pm for fixtures, including a 10 -minute changes.
So far in the 2025 season, rain has led to a shortage of three matches – PB vs KR in Kolkata, SRH vs DC in Hyderabad, and RCB vs. KR in Bangalore. Two other matches, including the PBSS won the RCB and the GT victory over MI, was shortened due to weather intervention.
In addition, on May 23, the RCB’s last domestic game against SRH has been shifted to Lucknow due to a yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department in Bangalore, which forecasts heavy rains in the city until Thursday.

Ahmedabad has been confirmed as the host city of the Indian Premier League (IPL) final of 2025, which will be held on June 3 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
The decision was finalized during a series of meetings organized by the Board of Control for Cricket for Cricket (BCCI) on Tuesday, May 20. In addition, Ahmedabad will also host the Qualifier 2 on June 1.
The first two play -off matches – Qualifiers 1 and Eliminator – will be played on May 29 and May 30 in Milanpur, New Chandigarh on May 29 and May 30, respectively. BCCI’s main consideration in the selection of these places was weather conditions, as the country is entering the rainy season.
Prior to the announcement of the resumption of IPL Season 18, a senior BCCI official expressed concern over the impact of the weather on the remaining matches. The official remarked, “After the war, this is the season,” citing the fears that suddenly and unusual non -seasonal clouds can disrupt the Burtis League.
During meetings with the BCCI office on Tuesday and the Governing Council, the weather was the main topic. After studying the forecast for the next two weeks, the BCCI decided about Ahmedabad and New Chandigarh as the safest place for the playoffs, in view of their low expected chances of rain. It was also reported that the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has requested to host the last two matches of the season. With the Kolkata Knight Riders won the last season’s title, Eden Garden in Kolkata was considered the right place for the finals.
