Germany’s conservative leader Frederick Mirza was elected Chancellor by Parliament on Tuesday, in the second phase of voting after a humiliating and unprecedented defeat in the first attempt, and his coalition government was forced to start a weak start.
The 69 -year -old Mirz, who attracted his conservatives to the federal election victory in February and signed a coalition agreement with the Center left Social Democrats (SPD), received an excessive nine, 325 votes for the absolute majority in the secret ballot.
It received only 310 votes in the first round of voting, meaning that at least 18 coalition legislators failed to back it.
After the vote, he left for a nearby Bileo Palace to formally nominate President Frank Walter Stein Mayor. Later, he will return to the historic Reich Stag building in the heart of Berlin to take the oath of office to become the 10th Chancellor of Germany after the end of World War II.
After the outgoing SPD Chancellor Olaf Schools’ Threeway Alliance, after last November, there is a lot of pressure on the German leadership to show that it left a political space in the heart of Europe until it faced several crises.
“People have been asking Germany to guide Germany for a long time, and there is no more place to pay attention to the call,” said David Vipl, of the United States German Martial Fund.
“Everything that holds Germany after the war over the past eight decades is no longer the case, whether it be open markets and free trade, whether it is the presence of American security in Europe.”
A global trade war created by US President Donald Trump’s spreading taxes is threatening to the third year of misery in Europe’s largest economy, which has led to a complete attack on Russia’s Ukraine in 2022 and has been able to end the Russian gas.
Meanwhile, Trump has threatened that he has been forced to question the reliability of the United States as a high security ally, not to come with the help of a NATO alliance, and has urged Europe to improve its ability to defend itself.
The German coalition agreement has mapped plans to restore development, such as reducing corporate tax and reducing energy prices. It has also expressed strong support for Ukraine and high military expenses.
The embarrassing start
But the failure to support his chancellor in Mirza’s first attempt is the first to Germany and a shame for a person who has promised to restore the German leadership globally.
“The whole of Europe today looked at Berlin today that Germany would re -perform itself as anchor and European supporter Power House,” said Jana Pigerin, head of the European Council’s Berlin Office on foreign relations. “This hope has been eliminated. With the results beyond our borders.”
The party’s insiders said on Monday that they would get a rapid majority of the two coalition parties about cabinet nominations, policy agreements and a huge borrowing package through the old parliament in their last days.
“This shows that the alliance is not united, which can undermine their ability to achieve policies,” said Holger Schmidding, chief economist in London, in London.
The only winner of Tuesday’s defeat is the right, anti -establishment alternative to Germany (AFD), which came in second in February and has done at the top of the recent survey, Forsa Polyster Manrfid Gallner said.
“The confidence in political institutions has been further damaged,” he said.
In February, its disappointing performances – especially conservatives, have since ended their support for both coalition parties, which, despite the promises of Mirza’s financing election campaign, have been frustrated by the decision to reduce the borrowing boundaries.
“The failed vote is clearly a sign that not everyone in the CDU agree with the financial U -turn,” said Carten Berzesky, the world head of the Macro of ING Research.
Murz’s scratching and wrong style, which has never been held in government office, has also failed to convince some people that it is Chancellor content.
“The relations between the parties will be severely damaged by this,” said Philip Kokar, a political scientist at the University of Hanover.
