TEHRAN: The Iranian Foreign Minister announced on Wednesday that Tehran will engage in talks with three European signatures of the 2015 nuclear deal in Rome on Friday, which is ahead of a fixed round of talks with the United States on Saturday.
Reuters reported on Monday that Tehran had proposed a meeting with Britain, France and Germany, which was collectively known as E3, which was based on the 2015 agreement, which was aimed at preventing Iran’s nuclear activity, which revealed in 2018 when US President Donald Trump was out of the first time.
“In my opinion, the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Iraqi told state media on Wednesday,” In my opinion, the three European countries have lost their role (in the nuclear file) because of their wrong policies. Of course, we do not want it and are ready to talk to them in Rome. “
Initial hesitation within the E3 was about the concern that such dialogue could create a parallel track, and hijacking the talks by Trump’s other administration, which aims to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
But three European diplomats told Reuters that the E3 decided that finally maintaining talks with Iran in their interest and confirming how they considered the parameters of a new nuclear deal.
Two diplomats said that the Foreign Ministry’s political directors were meeting with US officials in Berlin on Wednesday to briefly brief the US -Iranian talks and prepare for a room meeting, and will leave on Friday.
Iran wants to advance the pace of nuclear talks with the Trump administration in Oman and after talks with Russia and China last week. USED Iranian negotiators will resume in Rome on Saturday.
Iran’s point of view of the E3 shows that it is keeping its powers open, but also wants to assess where the European residents stand on a possible UN sanctions compensation against Tehran, which is known as the “Snapback Mechanism” in diplomatic circles.
European Iranian tension
Since last September, relations between E -3 and Iran have worsened over the past year since last September last year, the backdrop of new sanctions on the Islamic Republic on its ballistic missile program, the detention of foreign nationals and the support of Russia in the fight against Ukraine.
Highlighting these tensions, French Foreign Minister Jean Nul Beirut said on Tuesday that Paris would not think twice if the current negotiations fail to launch sanctions, which he said would have “devastating effects”.
He accused Tehran for secretly developing nuclear weapons. Iran has long denied it, saying its sharp uranium enrichment program is only for civilian energy purposes.
In a letter divided by the UN Security Council and Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Irwani, was viewed by Reuters, said Beirut’s comments were “baseless and politically irresponsible”.
He said that Snapback would be “legally and practically flawed, incompetent, and wrong.”
The letter states that “(Beirut) is a clear process of political and economic repression, the open threat to re -introducing sanctions on Iran’s economy with ‘devastating effects’.
On Tuesday, the US Department of Treasury has imposed new sanctions on it as a network based in Iran and China, which suspects that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard is suspected of receiving ballistic missile properties for the Corps.
Iraqi said the latest US sanctions during the talks sent a “false message”.
Trump has said he is confident of getting a new deal that will block Iran’s nuclear bomb capacity.
