Shanghai: China’s annual largest auto shows have become a showcase for the rise of better, good -performing electric vehicles and more confident local brands forever in the world’s largest market market.
But the Shanghai Auto Show on Wednesday opened in the midst of a wide uncertainty, how the US could reduce China’s trade war and rotate the supply chains as 100 more models launch in the market with more losers than the winners.
In another complexity, Chinese regulators indicated more and rigorous examinations for smart driving properties, which many car makers just saw as the next thing to separate their cars from rivals just a week ago.
US President Donald Trump’s move to impose 145 % tariffs on Chinese imports and Beijing’s counter -tariffs and trade sanctions has reduced global growth forecasts and forced carmakers and their suppliers to counter new threats.
But there are signs of trouble. China is now the world’s largest car exporter in terms of volume. Although the US market is inevitably closed due to revenue, analysts expect the Trump administration’s trade policies to put pressure on Chinese car makers. It can come through a weak demand in China if its economy is under pressure or Washington’s pressure that can force other US trade partners to align its prices.
China put a crack on ‘smart driving’
Chinese automakers, who were preparing to market their driver’s support features to separate their cars against competitors on the show, were forced to go on the “Safety First” message at the last minute.
Regulators insulted the use of marketing terms such as “smart driving” and “autonomous driving” after a deadly crash in Xumi SU -7 EV in March last week, which raised concerns about how the drivers were not fully designed to operate themselves.
Experny, a brand containing its internal technology, including artificial intelligence virtual assistant, said it would start a “training camp” about how to safely use his system for drivers.
“We will emphasize the limits of driving aid functions to ensure safety,” he told reporters on Wednesday. Volkswagen emphasized its stringent German workmanship and strict standards of testing.
Last year, after each of his moves at the Beijing Show, Lee Jun, CEO of Xumi Celebrity, who was absent from Shanghai, was absent as the show opened.
China speed
China’s highly competitive local market is a minefield for foreign brands. For example, the sales of Honda and Nissan were 34 % and 28 %, respectively, in the first quarter compared to a year ago.
Once China’s highest -selling passenger car brand, Volkswagen, saw a 6.0 % decline in sales in the first quarter. Under an electronic banner with the slogan of ‘China Speed’, Germany’s automaker unveiled the first of the five new models, including its Premium Audi brand, on Wednesday.
Tesla, the only foreign car maker with the most -selling EVs in China, said Tesla on Tuesday that it would have to evaluate its growth in three months due to the difficulty in predicting “the impact of changing global trade policy on automotive and energy supply chains.”
Trade war has already affected Tesla. Its sales of China were 22 % less than one year ago. Due to China’s anti -tampering, the company has suspended orders for Model S and Model X and has stopped some imports of China -driven ingredients.
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday announced a 71 percent bedside in the first quarter’s net profit, saying that the EV maker’s own delays for Humanoid robots already delayed producing projects are due to a rare burden for the robot -powered motor. Earlier, the robot was predicted.
