Amid the growing tension between Sindh and the center over the construction of six new canals on the Indus River, PPP leader and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that his party does not want to destroy the federal government under the leadership of the PML -N, but has the authority to do so.
Addressing the Geo News Program “Today Shah Zeb Nakhda’s Seth”, the CM of Sindh said: “We have unlimited potential. We can drop them. [Shehbaz-led government]But we don’t want to avoid any crisis.
“Don’t press us to the point where a decision is made that causes each one to lose.”
In February this year, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched a Green Pakistan move in Cholistan, which aims to revolutionize agriculture and provide farmers with agricultural facilities under one roof.
The project mobilized a wave of unrest throughout Sindh, and in March, the Provincial Assembly unanimously approved a resolution against the construction of six new canals on the Indus River. Meanwhile, the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and other nationalist parties took to the streets and staged mass rallies in different cities of the province including Karachi.
During today’s show, the Chief Minister made it clear that the only solution to the matter was eliminating the project. The Chief Minister added, “The people of Sindh will now agree on only one thing – that the project should be abandoned.”
He also criticized the federal government for wronging the canal issue.
Responding to a question about the 72 -hour ultimatum to the provincial government by the protesters, protesting against the construction of six new canals on the Indus River, he said that the federal government had contacted them on the issue of canal, adding that the talks were moving forward.
He added that currently, more than 2550bn projects have been stopped due to the efforts of the Sindh government. The Chief Minister added that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has not yet approved the project.
For another question, he asked the federal government to explain where the water of these new canals would come from. The provincial chief executive emphasized that the consent of the lower levels is essential for water projects in the upper areas.
The federal government sought permission from the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) for the construction of six new canals, stating that 27 % of the water was flowing into the sea.
He said it was not made in this request [Centre] He will take steps to protect water, “he added:” We have challenged the IRSA certificate. “
“This matter has been pending with the Council of Commonwealth (CCI) from June [last year]“
Demonstrators urged the public to avoid problems
Earlier today, CM Shah urged anti -canal protesters to remain peaceful and not cause problems for the people by stopping highways and important paths.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, CM Murad said: “Lawyers and nationalists should continue their protest without bothering their own people.”
He said that the PPP and the protesters also share the same purpose, adding that if their party ongoing talks with the federal government were fruitless, their party would also protest.
In his hard -hitting person today, the CM of Sindh announced that the controversial canal project would be blocked at all costs.
He added, “Sindh government and PPP will not allow the canal project to build with the power of the people.”
The CM maintained that work on the canal project has been halted since 2024, and the approval of the project has been pending since November last year. He wondered why the project was not abandoned.
He said, “Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is also aware of the serious consequences of the canal project,” he said and hoped that the Prime Minister would work with justice.
Protests in Karachi
A protest march by the Safe Indus Students Alliance, which was supported by Karachi rescue Tahrik and others, was in the teen sword and left for Fawara Chowk. The protesters also included Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Junior.
Like many other people in the province, protests staged a protest against the canal plan and organized a demonstration in Fora Chowk.
A day ago, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, telephoned Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Memon for the third consecutive day to discuss the matter.
Sanaullah said, “The Prime Minister will take a proper decision on the matter, while Memon emphasized that” Whenever there is talks, he will be at the government level with the government. ” “
Addressing the Geo News program “Geo Pakistan” on Tuesday, Sanaullah assured that the interests of Sindh would not be compromised.
“[We do not have] He said that any intention of stealing a drop of Sindh water, “he added, adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is ready for talks and the federal government is taking the issue seriously.
The minister also tried to reduce the remarks given by PPP chairman Bilal Bhutto Zardari, who warned last week that his party would be separated from the ruling coalition if his party failed to remove its serious reservations on the controversial canals.
Sanaullah said, “What Bilawal said in a public gathering was said to be in the throes of speech.”
He emphasized the ban in political dialogue and reminded him of mutual respect. He added, “There is no need to react to Bilawal’s request. The statements should remain within the limits, and others should be shown respect and dignity.”
Memon echoed the federal government’s stance on the talks and reaffirmed the province’s concerns. He said, “The problem of the canal is a cause for public concern,” he added: “The Sindh government is representing the people of Sindh.”
Memon added that objections to the canal plan were raised on several occasions and forums. “If the federal government wants to discuss the matter, it is welcomed,” he said. PPP will definitely advocate for the people of Sindh. “
Meanwhile, protests in Sindh are interrupted. Memon appealed to the protesters to protest responsibly. “Demonstrators have been requested to keep their protests on the basis, not to stop the roads, but the common people are being harmed,” he said.
