KARACHI: A motorcycle rider was severely killed by a motorcyclist by a speeding water tanker near Jail Chorangi, causing tensions in the metropolis, which eliminated concerns over road safety in Magesti.
The accident gave rise to public grief when angry citizens set fire to five water tankers near the crash site in the port city. However, firefighters immediately responded, extinguishing flames and preventing further damage.
Taking immediate notice of the growing situation, Sindh Home Minister Ziaal Hassan Lanjar directed the police officers to submit a detailed report about the accident and the violence.
The Minister also emphasized the need for strict implementation and measures of traffic laws to prevent such tragedies in the future.
This tragic event has emerged in the midst of a disturbing increase in traffic deaths in vast megau. In the last two months, at least 108 people have been killed in road accidents across the city.
Of these deaths, 72 occurred in urban areas and 24 in suburbs. At least eight lives were lost in four separate accidents in the dumpers.
In response to a dangerous increase in the deaths caused by heavy vehicles, the Sindh government had banned their entry into the city earlier this month. According to the provincial directive, dumpers are now allowed to enter Karachi from 10am to 6pm.
Monday’s tragedy rejected calls for better implementation of road safety measures and traffic rules to prevent increasing accidents in the city.
Authorities are under growing pressure to address these concerns and to ensure the safety of Karachi residents.
Government’s response to rising accidents
Following a series of truck casualties earlier this month, Sindh senior minister Sharjeel Anim Memon addressed the media on February 13 regarding the steps taken by the provincial government to prevent the increasing number of road accidents. What
The Sindh government has declared the fitness and registration of all heavy transport vehicles. Going forward, all major transport vehicles must have a valid fitness certificate to work on the roads. Proper certification lacking vehicles will be prohibited from using.
The water board has also implemented a barcode system for all registered water tankers operating with authorized hydrants, Memon said. Only the vehicles that meet the required fitness standards will be issued barcodes, while unregistered vehicles will be seized.
In addition, the first registered vehicles will be re -evaluated to ensure permanent compliance with the safety rules and regulations.
A 30 -day grace period has been given for heavy transport vehicles to get a fitness certificate.
In addition, dumper trucks in Karachi have been revised in operational times. Earlier, the roads were allowed from 11am to 6pm, now dumpers will be allowed to easily increase sheep and public safety.
Speaking on the same day on Geo News program Geo Pakistan, Memon said it was wrong to completely accuse one person or institution for road accidents.
He emphasized that the responsibility lies on all stakeholders, including the government, careless drivers and violating traffic laws.
He added that the fitness needs of the vehicles are not new and the government is planning to outsource the transport department.
“The politics of accidents should not be done”
Addressing the show “Geo Pakistan”, Sindh government spokesman Sadia Javed emphasized that officials are taking precautionary measures to counter tanker accidents.
However, in response to the accident, he strongly said that the issue should not be done politics and that accidents should be treated like accidents.
“Political forces should not give it [issue] An ethnic color, “he said.
When questioned about the statement of Aafiq Ahmed, the leader of the National Movement (Haqki) (Haqki) (MQ), he added: “Afrq Ahmed made a statement and the government took action because any law and order from it. The situation will not be allowed to arise. “
He added that the people should also work patiently and cooperate with the government in the implementation of security measures.
