Pakistan’s football crisis has deepened as FIFA has imposed another suspension on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), which once again endangered the country’s participation in international events.
The latest blow PFF follows the Congress’ FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on January 24 at a virtual meeting of the proposed constitutional amendments. As a direct result, Pakistan now faces a ban on global football.
February 6 is another dark chapter in Pakistan’s football history as FIFA took a decisive action to suspend the PFF for the third time. The suspension is from the PFF Congress and the usual committee (NC) appointed by the Congress and FIFA.
The PFFNC had earlier recommended the PFF Congress its results that it could be eliminated if it was accepted, according to the FIFA mandate. However, the PFF Congress focused on it and rejected the proposed constitutional amendment
Later, in an official statement by the PFF Congress rejection, FIFA confirmed the decision: “PFF accepts constitutional amendments proposed by the World Football Body before the presidential election The FFA was suspended after refusing to do. ”
The suspension has once again tarnished the image of Pakistan football due to political interference which has worsened the situation. One of the biggest problems is the suspension of FIFA’s financial support, which will be a significant obstacle to sports development in the country.
FIFA has made it clear that after the approval of the proposed amendments by the PFF Congress, the ban will only be lifted. The main goal of these reforms is to increase the quality of eligibility for the presidential candidates, which is a more comprehensive and democratic electoral process.
“The PFF has been suspended immediately due to the failure to revise the PFF constitution, which will ensure a really fair and democratic elections, thus part of the PFF’s ongoing process. As FIFA will fulfill its responsibilities, “FIFA described.
As a result of the suspension, Pakistan has been forced to withdraw from international competitions, including the AFC Asian Cup qualifier. The AFC had warned that if the suspension was not removed by March 4, Pakistan would be considered withdrawn from the tournament.
Pakistan was ready to play the role of Syria in its opening group ‘E’ match on March 25. However, due to the ongoing ban, the team has come out. In a surprising turning point, PFFNC has also announced that Pakistan will not participate in the last round of qualifications for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
FIFA rules, especially with Article 13, AFC regulations, mean that the PFF has confiscated all its membership rights. As a result, Pakistani teams, clubs and representatives are prevented from international football until the suspension is over.
This is not the first time that Pakistan faced such action. Due to the intervention of the third party, PFF was first suspended by FIFA in 2017, the ban, which lasted for five months.
In 2021, there was a more severe suspension when a faction of former PFF officials took over the headquarters of the federation, which was under the power of the FIFA -appointed Normalization Committee. This situation continued for more than a year and a half.
Former Pakistan Head Coach Stephen Constantine, led by the national team, recorded a historic victory against Cambodia in October 2023 for the first time to reach the second phase of the World Cup eligibility, urging stakeholders to take personal interests. Pakistan prefer the future of football.
“What is better for Pakistan football? If you honestly answer this question, you will make the right decision. I do not know that the FIFA for whom the demand is different is different from any other association. The body does not need to be liked.
To resolve this crisis, FIFA has extended the PFNC mandate by July 31. Aaron Malik, who was guiding the committee, retired after completing his deadline for the eighth extension after his appointment.
FIFA has now appointed Saud Hashmi as the new chairman of PFFNC, and has been entrusted with the responsibility of steering Pakistan football beyond the crisis.
All eyes are now on Hashmi because they try to meet the situation in FIFA, to persuade members of Congress to accept constitutional amendments and ensure PFF elections.
Finally, the fate of Pakistan football is in the hands of the PFF Congress. Or is it continuing his defamation or accepts FIFA’s reforms to eliminate suspension and restore Pakistan’s position in international football.
In a recent decisive step in restoring Pakistan’s status in international football, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has made an extraordinary Congress schedule in Lahore on February 27.
The meeting will focus on adopting the constitutional amendments necessary to comply with FIFA’s directives, which is an important step towards lifting Pakistan’s current suspension from the World Football Governing Body.
