At least 12 people were martyred and 36 others injured in a suicide blast outside the District Judicial Complex in the G11 area of the Federal Capital on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Dr. Mubashir Daha said that a total of 36 people injured in the Islamabad District Court blast were brought to Pims Hospital.
He confirmed that 18 of the injured were discharged after receiving medical treatment. “The condition of four of the injured is critical, while 14 others have been shifted to wards as their condition is now stable,” said Dr Daha.
According to the hospital spokesperson, 10 victims of the explosion have been identified so far, while the identities of the two dead are still being confirmed.
Speaking to reporters outside PIMS Hospital, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said that a total of 22 injured people are being treated at the hospital, while two victims have been taken to private hospitals by their families.
He also said that the disaster ward of the hospital was opened to facilitate the treatment of the blast victims.
Talking to the media, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that this suicide attack took place today at 12:39 pm.
The security czar said the suicide bomber was trying to enter the courthouse but “when he didn’t get the chance, he attacked a police vehicle”.
Noting that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed to ensure the best medical care for the injured, Naqvi said the first priority would be to identify the suicide bomber.
“Those behind the court attack will be brought to light,” the minister noted.
“There are many messages in this attack. If someone from another country is involved, it will not be forgiven,” he warned.
Naqvi further revealed that the suicide bomber remained at the site for 10 to 15 minutes, intending to enter the building before the attack. He added that the assailant detonated the explosives as soon as the police vehicle arrived.
The security czar visited the blast site outside the district courts in Islamabad and directed that the search operation be completed quickly. Inspector General of Police Islamabad (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi informed the minister about the incident.
Earlier, the police said that the blast took place in a car parked outside the court.
Petitioners and lawyers were reportedly among the injured. After the explosion, the Kucheri court building was evacuated. Those inside the building were being evacuated through the back door of the facility and court proceedings were suspended.
Islamabad’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Chief Commissioner and forensic team soon reached the blast site, while rescue teams and law enforcers shifted the deceased and shifted the injured to hospital.
A state of emergency has been declared at Pims Hospital in the capital.
Sources later revealed that the “head” of the suspected suicide bomber was found at the blast site.
They said that the bombing was carried out by Indian-backed terrorists and a proxy of the Afghan Taliban, Fitna al-Khawarij.
The attack comes a day after a group of militants stormed Wana Cadet College in South Waziristan.
CCTV footage of the suicide blast in Islamabad’s Kachihari has surfaced, showing the moments of the deadly blast.
The video captures a large number of lawyers and civilians at the site shortly before the blast.
A police mobile can also be seen near the spot at the time of the blast, moments before chaos erupted in the area.
A few hours before the explosion at the Islamabad District Courts, multiple social media posts originating from Afghanistan hinted at possible militant activity, sources told GeoNews.
According to the sources, the blast occurred around 12:45 pm, while threatening messages and secret letters started pouring in on Afghan social media accounts in the early hours of the morning.
In a post from an account linked to the Taliban’s X-handle, “Khorasan al-Arabi”, immediately after the blast. Later the Arabic phrase “Bismilla Rahman Ayer Rahim” was raised immediately after the blast.
The source added that around 6:45 am, another Taliban-linked X account allegedly shared posts reading “Coming Islamabad”, raising suspicions of collusion.
Officials noted that similar threatening messages were circulated during the Afghan military parade, with users posting inflammatory statements about raising the Afghan flag in Lahore and setting fire to Islamabad.
According to sources, the Afghan news handle “Image News” also published some of these threatening messages on November 2.
Officials believe the blasts in Islamabad and New Delhi may reflect a concerted effort by Pakistan’s dissidents to destabilize the country and undermine its security.
Condemnation
President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the suicide blast near the Islamabad District Judicial Complex, expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, and paid tribute to the law enforcement agencies.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terror attack in the federal capital, calling it a heinous act of terrorism by Indian-backed proxies operating from Afghan soil.
The Prime Minister expressed deep grief over the loss of precious lives and prayed for the increase in the ranks of the martyrs and patience for their families. “My heartfelt sympathies, along with that of the entire nation, are with the families of the martyrs,” read a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and directed the authorities concerned to ensure the best possible medical treatment for them.
Condemning “proxies of Indian-sponsored terrorism”, the prime minister said targeting innocent Pakistani citizens through cross-border terrorism was a despicable and cowardly act. “These attacks are a continuation of India’s state-sponsored terrorism aimed at destabilizing Pakistan,” he added.
Prime Minister Shehbaz revealed that when Indian-backed militants attacked in Islamabad, the same network operating from Afghan soil also attacked innocent children in Wana. “No condemnation is enough for these Indian-sponsored attacks from Afghan soil,” he said.
He reiterated that the blood of innocent Pakistanis will not be wasted. He vowed, “We will continue our war against terrorism until the last terrorist of the so-called ‘Fitna-e-Hindostan’ and ‘Fitna-Khawarij’ is eliminated.”
The Prime Minister directed the concerned agencies to thoroughly investigate the incidents and ensure that the culprits and their facilitators are brought to justice.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has written on X that Pakistan is in a state of war, warning that no one should believe that the fighting is limited to the Pak-Afghan border or remote parts of Balochistan.
He added that the attack should serve as a “wake-up call” for the entire nation. “This is a war that belongs to all of Pakistan,” he asserted.
He said that the Pakistan Army “sacrifices every day to give people a sense of security”.
Asif said that it would be futile to expect successful negotiations with Kabul rulers in the current situation. “Afghan authorities can stop terrorism, but bringing this war to Islamabad is their message,” he remarked.
“Pakistan, by the grace of Allah, has all the strength to respond to Kabul’s message,” he added.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Wana Cadet College, terming the attack on innocent students and educational institutions as an act of extreme cowardice.
He announced that a peace jirga would be held tomorrow (Wednesday) for a joint strategy to root out terrorism in the province.
Afridi said that all political, religious and tribal leaders from across the province were invited to participate in the Jirga.
The Chinese embassy has condemned the suicide attack. In an ex-post, the Chinese embassy said: “We strongly condemn the suicide blast near the Islamabad District Judicial Complex, offer our deepest condolences to the deceased victims, express our sincere condolences to their families and the injured, and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
Qatar also condemned the deadly attacks in Islamabad and South Waziristan.
“Qatar strongly condemns and condemns the attacks in Islamabad, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and in the city of Wana in South Waziristan, which resulted in deaths and injuries,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s firm stance in rejecting all forms of violence, terrorism and criminal acts, regardless of their motives or justifications.
Doha expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the government and people of Pakistan, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Expressing grief over the incident, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott wrote on X: “We are aware of an explosion in Islamabad which has reportedly killed several people. We are tracking closely, and British citizens should monitor travel advice. My thoughts are with those who have lost their lives.”
American Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker also condemned the Islamabad blast and said that the United States stands in solidarity with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.
“Our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in today’s senseless attack,” read an X-post from the US Embassy in Islamabad.
“We condemn this attack and all forms of terrorism and are committed to supporting the government of Pakistan to ensure peace and stability in our nation.”
Rising terrorism
Since the Afghan Taliban government assumed power in 2021, Pakistan has been witnessing an increase in incidents of terrorism, particularly in KP and Balochistan.
Since then, terrorists have launched hundreds of cross-border terrorist attacks in Pakistan, leading to the martyrdom of soldiers and countless civilians, including women and children.
During the first eight months of 2025, KP alone recorded more than 600 terrorist incidents, resulting in the martyrdom of at least 138 civilians and 79 police personnel.
Pakistan has long urged the Afghan Taliban government to prevent its territory from being used to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
Cross-border terrorism also led to tense border skirmishes between the two neighboring countries’ forces in October.
Pakistan attacked several Taliban posts along the border on October 12, when they resorted to unprovoked firing, with the help of their affiliated militants.
Pakistan’s retaliatory actions resulted in the killing of more than 200 Afghan Taliban and affiliated militants.
Around 23 Pakistani soldiers also accepted martyrdom during the clashes.
Security forces also destroyed several terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province and Kabul in “health-related strikes”.
The two countries have halted hostilities following a ceasefire agreement requested by the Afghan Taliban government.
