BAKU: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday confirmed that Pakistan desires peace but will not allow any attempt to challenge its sovereignty or compromise its territorial integrity.
“Just as their Azerbaijani and Turkish brothers have sought peace, there is no doubt and no one can be allowed to challenge our sovereignty or undermine our territorial integrity,” the prime minister said, addressing Azerbaijan’s Victory Day parade in Baku.
Azerbaijan marks Victory Day on November 8 to commemorate its 2020 victory in the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, which led to the liberation of the territories under Armenian occupation for nearly three decades.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan were also present on this occasion. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan are like three brothers and their hearts beat together.
“They are now standing shoulder to shoulder, celebrating the momentous occasion,” added Prime Minister Shehbaz.
The Prime Minister said five years ago that under the bold and visionary leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the brave sons of Azerbaijan rose to answer the call of history.
“Amazingly, the world watched, when the brave armed forces of Azerbaijan liberated their homeland of Shahi Karabakh. Throughout this struggle for independence, Pakistan stood like a rock with its brotherly country, Azerbaijan,” he added.
He extended the equal calendar on behalf of the Pakistani nation who shared the joy and pride of the brothers and sisters of Azerbaijan in celebrating the fifth anniversary of their glorious victory in the 44-day Patriotic War.
The Prime Minister said that Azerbaijan’s victory in Karabakh was an outstanding demonstration of a just cause. A beacon of hope, for all nations, struggling for sovereignty and self-determination, including the brave and resilient people of Gaza, and the Indian illegally occupied, Jammu and Kashmir.
This year, he said, the whole world witnessed how the great people and determined leadership of Azerbaijan and Turkey stood firmly with Pakistan during the four-day war with India in May this year.
Prime Minister thanked Trump for India-Pak ceasefire
Prime Minister Shehbaz also acknowledged and praised US President Donald Trump for his “exemplary leadership” that resulted in the success of these peace efforts.
He reiterated, “It was President Trump’s bold and decisive leadership that ushered in a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, restored peace in South Asia – averting a major war, and saving millions of lives.”
The Prime Minister said that their shared commitment to peace has recently been shown in the case of Afghanistan, and thanks to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as well as the Ameer of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thanhi, because of their invaluable contribution to the peace efforts between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“It is a true reflection of the strong and time-tested brotherly ties between our countries that stand together through thick and thin,” he said.
The Prime Minister prayed for the strength of the Azeri martyrs and the strength of the three brotherly countries to continue marching fully towards a promising future of development and prosperity.
Pakistani troops on parade, featuring JF-17 fighter jets
Pakistani troops and JF-17 fighter jets also joined the victory parade, as the prime minister described it as a proud sight.
“What a proud and controversial sight it is to witness, our brave armed forces, marching alongside their Azerbaijani and Turkish brothers, as the skies come alive with the roar of JF-17 thunder jets, a wonderful symbol of our enduring friendship, which Alhamdulillah has grown from strength to strength,”
He recalled that on August 14 this year, Azerbaijani and Turkish troops proudly marched alongside the Pakistani armed forces in Islamabad, to a standing ovation, when they celebrated Marka Haque – the occasion of their historic victory with India.
The Prime Minister said that his heart swelled with pride at the celebrations of Azerbaijan.
“Under the dynamic and fearless command of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the highly professional armed forces of Pakistan delivered a bloody nose to our enemy, stunning the enemy in shock and disbelief with precise and highly effective military cartoons.
He added that our ever vigilant Air Force Hawks, commanded by Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Bibar Sidhu, shot down seven highly sophisticated enemy aircraft with lightning speed in defense of the motherland.
Today, he said, as he celebrated the past, he also looked to the future with great hopes and aspirations.
He said it was a pleasure to see displaced families returning to their homes in Karabakh, and praised President Aliyev’s strong personal commitment to the welfare and progress of the people of Azerbaijan.
The Prime Minister said, “The real victory is not only on the battlefield, but in building bridges of peace and understanding.
President Ilham Aliyev, in his remarks, thanked the brotherly countries for their support and solidarity during the war with Armenia.
President Aliyev thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for his presence and said that the Prime Minister stood by him and the brotherhood of Pakistan showed solidarity and support during the 44-day war.
He thanked the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the people of Turkey for their support in the armed conflict.
He said that Azerbaijan, Turkey and Pakistan are showing solidarity, and the presence of their military personnel in the march showed unity, brotherhood and friendship.
