On Sunday, security forces eliminated 25 Indian-sponsored terrorists after two major groups of Khawarij tried to infiltrate into areas along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The infiltration bids by Afghanistan come at a time when delegations from Islamabad and Kabul are engaged in peace talks in Turkey following a ceasefire that broke Doha following deadly clashes between the neighboring countries.
The security forces intercepted the movement of two major groups of militants, who were trying to infiltrate into the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, on October 24-25 in the northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district, Ghki, Karam, and Aspenwem, the army’s media wing said.
It added that the troops engaged the groups in Spenom specifically and skillfully and killed 15 militants, including four suicide bombers.
In another operation in Ghaki General Area of Karam, 10 infiltrating militants were killed by security personnel. A large number of arms, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the deceased Ghorej.
During the intense exchange of fire, five soldiers claimed martyrdom, including Haulder Manzoor Hussain, 35, resident of District 35, Punik Nauman Ilyas Kayani, 23, resident of Poonch district, Sepoy Mohammad Adil, resident of District 35, Sepoy Mohammad Adil, Sepoy Mohammad Adil, resident of District Poonch. Pak Petan District.
The ISPR has said that the infiltration attempt “casts doubt on the intentions of the interim Afghan government to address the issue of terrorism emanating from its soil”.
Pakistan has been consistently asking the Taliban government to ensure effective border management on its side of the border and is expected to fulfill its obligations under the Doha Agreement and deny the use of Afghan territory by Khuraij against Pakistan.
Confirming the pledge, ISPR said: “Pakistan’s security forces are resolute and unwavering in their commitment to defend the country’s fronts, and such sacrifices by our brave soldiers reinforce our resolve.”
“A sweeping operation is being carried out to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored militants found in the area,” the army’s media wing said.
It also vowed: “The counter-terrorism campaign by Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies under the vision ‘Izm-Isthakum’ (as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) will continue at full speed to eradicate the menace of foreign-initiated and sponsored terrorism from the country.”
Pakistan recently extended the closure of cross-border crossings with Afghanistan indefinitely, citing the security situation, following heightened tensions between Islamabad and Kabul earlier this month following clashes that killed dozens on both sides in the worst fighting since the Taliban’s 2021 takeover of Kabul.
The border skirmishes erupted after Islamabad demanded that they control militants who attack Pakistan along their shared border, saying they operate from sanctuaries in Afghanistan.
A ceasefire was agreed at talks hosted by Qatar and Turkey last weekend and is holding between the two sides, but border trade remains closed.
