Colombo: Pakistan and India will face today in a very expected match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
In its opening match of the tournament, Pakistan suffered a massive loss to Bangladesh, while India won against Sri Lanka in its tournament opener.
The match will probably be affected by the rain, with forecasts predict throughout the day. Rain is expected before the match begins and can continue in different intensity during the game.
Colombo has recently witnessed heavy rains, and tomorrow’s match between Sri Lanka and Australia was called due to permanent rain.
Statistics show that Pakistan has never defeated India in women’s ODIs, both teams have faced each other 11 times, where India has been victorious at every opportunity.
The tournament is taking place in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2, and Pakistan will play all its group stage matches at Colombo Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
If Pakistan proceeded in the semi -final on October 29 and the final on November 2, both matches will also be in Colombo.
‘No handshake’
Earlier, Deojit Sakia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), had said that his upcoming confrontation at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 would not change the policy about Pakistan.
In an interview to the BBC, the BCCI secretary has said that there is no assurance that Indian players will hand over their Pakistani counterparts during their upcoming game in Colombo on October 5.
“I can’t predict anything, but our relationship with this country [Pakistan] Is the same; There is no change in the past week, “Sicia said.
“India will play this match against Pakistan in Colombo, and all cricket protocols will be followed. I just assure that whatever the MCC is in. [Marylebone Cricket Club] Cricket rules, this will be done.
He added, “Even if there will be handshakes, even if it will be hugged, I can’t assure you of anything at this time.”
His comments have come in the backdrop of India’s controversial and widespread condemnation of India during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025, where the men’s team refused to hand over Pakistani players and made political statements during the afternoon celebrations and press conferences.
India also refused to submit the winner’s trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, who also served as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
‘Focus on the game completely’
Addressing a person before the match on Saturday, Pakistan Women’s Cricket Captain Fatima Sana said his team was fully focused on the game.
However, Fatima was still asked to tell if she would lose the spirit and Kamardi between the two teams after her match in the 2022 edition of the mega event, when Indian players surrounded the then Pakistan Captain Bismah Marov and cooled her six -month -old girl.
In response to Fatima, who was then part of the national team, he reiterated Pakistan’s position to fulfill the soul, but he emphasized that his main purpose was to ‘focus’ on the game.
Fatima said, “Our main purpose is to play well. Our relationship with other teams is good. We will try to fulfill the spirit of the game.”
He added, “What happened before, such as Bismah’s daughter, when everyone enjoyed it together, as players, we all like such moments. But most importantly, we are focused on this.”
The captain of Pakistan also rejected the concept of difficulties against them as they overtake India 11-0 in their head records in women’s ODIs and instead emphasize that their team is capable of defeating any top side, which says the record is broken.
