WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump is ready to meet Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif today (Thursday), as appears in the official schedule of the President’s daily engagement.
Shehbaz Trump’s meeting immediately in Pakistan at midnight. Later, around 4:30 pm local time will be at the Oval Office in the White House.
Without any verification from the White House, about which Pakistani officials will participate in the high level hood, it is likely that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir will also be part of the meeting. However, security sources have not confirmed the Army Chief’s presence.
Prime Minister Shahbaz, who is currently in New York, will leave for Washington this afternoon. After meeting with President Trump, Prime Minister Shahbaz will return to New York and address the UNGA session on September 26 (Friday).
Although Shahbaz Trump’s agenda has not been revealed by both sides, after this meeting, the US president hosted key Muslim countries, including Pakistani Premier and Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Indonesia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and United Arab Emirates.
Washington has warmed Pakistan’s relations in recent months under Trump after seeing Pakistan’s rival India as a competition in Asia as China’s influence in Asia.
Washington’s relations with New Delhi have been tested under the Republican leader visa obstacles for Indians, the high tariff rates imposed on India by Trump, and repeated claims of Trump that they have given their latest enemies in May.
The United States and Pakistan on July 31 announced a trade agreement with Washington with a 19 % revenue rate. Trump has not yet reached a trade agreement with India.
Officials and analysts have noted that after a tension with Washington, New Delhi is regaining relations with China as a hedge.
Trump welcomed Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir earlier this year, the first time the US president hosted the head of the Pakistan Army – which is widely regarded as the country’s most powerful personality in the White House, which was confronted by senior Pakistani civilian officials.
“When it comes to economic and trade relations, when we talk about counter -terrorism, we are working on a number of issues,” a senior state official told reporters at a briefing on Tuesday when asked about Pakistan.
“And thus the president is focused on advancing US interests in the region, including engagement with Pakistan and its official leaders.”
Prime Minister Shahbaz’s schedule with President Trump is to raise the background of the Pakistan -India conflict in May, in which Washington launched a ceasefire between two nuclear weapons -equipped neighboring countries and launching attacks within Pakistan. (iiojk)
India’s attacks were forced to launch Operation Bonyan Um-Marsus, including three Rafales, including six Indian Air Force fighter jets in response to Indian invasion. The conflict eventually ended through an American broker ceasefire, for which Pakistan has given President Trump a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Since then, Islamabad and Washington have been engaged together between both civilian and military leadership and have finalized a lot of trade agreements, reflecting the improving relations between the two countries.
