Paris Fashion Week recently took its final bow, bringing to an end the Fall/Winter 2020 runways. Despite the impact of the coronavirus on the shows, ace designers brought out stunning collections complete with creative hair and makeup looks. While Dior’s make-up image director Peter Phillips demonstrated just how effective a simple black eyeliner can be, Sam McKnight mimicked the models’ parted roots with bright feathers. Here are some of the best looks from Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020.
Goth Glam
For his fall 2020 show, Valentino’s signature reds went dark. For the show, Guido Palau, global creative director for Redken, opted for a very deep part that draped over the forehead. The hairstylist pulled the hair so low on the forehead that it almost looked like a false bang. Keeping the front dramatic, she then pulled the length back into a super low ponytail. As for the eye makeup, legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath created a sultry negative space winged eyeliner look on each model and topped it off with black stones.
Colored hair sections
For designer Dries Van Noten, known for his extreme beauty, hairstylist Sam McKnight transformed the ’80s look by transforming the models’ hair into dark side parts and their accessories in neon shades such as Doused in fuchsia, lime green and bright yellow. What made the look stand out were the colorful feathers that she secured with her trendy hairspray. To complement the neon roots, makeup artist Inggrognard went across and down her lids with bright eyeshadows, finishing the look with a bright red lip.
Two tone lid
It seems that dramatic eyes are seen at Paris Fashion Week. Always one for creating beautiful, wearable makeup looks, acclaimed artist Tom Patchoux created a two-tone eyeshadow look for Altuzarra in deep shades of rose and teal with a cat-eye look. Jewel-toned eyeshadows were dusted on the eyes, while Peaches used black liner to create a long winged eyeliner. The look was surprisingly subtle but still colorful and unpredictable.
Head scarf and chunky liner
Almost every model at the Dior show wore a ’70s silk scarf around their heads. Hairstylist Guido Palau kept the hair natural, smoothing the hair to give it a bit of texture on the ends, and some went with diagonal-print scarves wrapped around the models’ heads. The makeup look, created by Peter Phillips, was all about different iterations of chunky black eyeliner. Some models sported half-rimmed eyes, a full-rimmed and fully-lined look, and one with just liner under the eyes.
Bare face and slicked back hair
For Balmain’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection, models graced the runway with bare faces and clear skin. According to makeup artist Samira Goethe, the look was kept minimal and polished using L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation and the brand’s La Vie En Glow palette. The look was finished with a light coat of mascara, groomed brows, gloss on the lids, and hydrated lips. Inspired by Princess Caroline of Monaco, hairstylist Sam McKnight created the texture by saturating the sectioned hair in gel or mousse – depending on the texture – and then using a wide-toothed comb to mold the length into place.
Painting eyes
Models walked the Maison Margiela runway with artsy, painterly eyes, courtesy of Pat McGrath. The makeup artist used her brand new Sublime Perfection Concealer for flawless, glowing skin. While some models’ looks were punctuated by graphic strokes of black, lavender and pale blue eyeshadow across the lids, others flashed orange-painted brows with purple shadows around the brow bone. I got mixed up.
