The hustle and bustle, noise and commotion of most salons and skin care institutes can be annoying, especially for someone who is looking for a calm and new life experience. Most places you’ll run into the sights and sounds of women of all shapes and sizes, chattering over hair dryers, noise machines, loud music and more. The scent that greets you will be a combination of hair dye chemicals, silicone products and the odd candle here and there, all aimed at controlling the smell.
However, the CACI Center in Karachi is a small oasis away from the maddening crowds. Located in the Clifton neighborhood, it has been around for almost two decades and has a quiet, mature aura of experience and knowledge. Run by Farkhunda Bawani, whose skin is testimony to how good the treatment and services should be, the CACI Center is where women have been going for years in search of a discreet and relaxing experience.
Referred by a friend, I thought I’d check out this top secret when I needed a facial. I booked my appointment and met and consulted with a qualified and trained cosmetologist who asked in detail about my skin before designing a custom facial for me. After 40, I needed hydration, anti-aging, firming and lifting that could be achieved in the hands of experienced professionals and updated machines. We walked upstairs to the treatment rooms as soothing music played in the background, making the hour or so already a pleasant experience.
My facial, like most facials, started with a deep pre-cleanse and cleanse, followed by a gentle exfoliation. Now, I’ve never exfoliated before and I was a little worried that my skin wouldn’t react in a friendly way and would be red and blotchy before the after dinner I had to attend. . I was assured that this would not happen because the natural, fruit peel is extremely gentle and only removes the outer layer of dead, dull skin.
CACI treatment was next and involved another set of experienced hands working with another set of products and machines. They called it microcurrent lifting, which consisted of a set of devices working primarily on the jawline. Microcurrent devices are now available in all forms, most of which are for home use and many women keep them in their wardrobes as an essential part of their beauty regime. It was more reassuring to have professionals work their magic with a guarantee of good results. Also, the jaw tightening included a magical facial massage where I could feel the muscles tightening and firming. This was followed by another massage using radio frequency skin tightening and thermal energy, aimed at bringing a youthful glow to the face and neck.
With facials lasting a little over an hour, the experience brings a mix of creams, potions and elixirs to the treatment. Soft spa music played in the background and even though my eyes were covered with a cooling pad, I was constantly guided through the process so I knew what was going on. The result was instantly refreshing and yes, I could see a difference.
Skin treatments have really progressed over the years and women are becoming more and more radical to maintain a youthful complexion and skin tone. Not everyone wants to go the hard, irreversible route through injectables and surgical options, she said, and not everyone can afford to pay the kind of money they need on an ongoing basis. I think facials, especially custom facials that cost anywhere around ten thousand rupees, are a better option for long-term skin care. They are gentle on skin and pocket. The CACI center also offers injections, I was informed. Under the guidance of a cosmetologist, you can get Botox, fillers, mesotherapy (for the face and hair) and a dose of PRP, another very popular treatment these days for those who can handle the sight of blood and plasma. There was also a body treatment section, including cellulite reduction, slimming and ECM contouring.
Overall, it was a great and affordable experience and one that I will definitely go back for.
