If Kate and William gave fans their final story, Bollywood was not far behind. He’s bold, handsome and quick-witted, and he’s quite the prince charming (literally) – Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are one of B-town’s favorite couples. Theirs is a whirlwind of romance straight from the sets of a fantasy land. At a time when an iPhone’s battery can probably last longer than a celebrity relationship, this couple — each a star in their own right — has stood the test of time and has been dating for more than eight years now. has had its fair share of controversy.
Interestingly, though both Kareena and Saif have huge hits to their name, their on-screen stints have never done well at the box office. But then again, who needs box office numbers when it would take nothing less than a natural disaster to knock them out of the A-list. The co-starring may not have been fruitful, but both Saif and Kareena’s diaries are full of film projects and endorsements while still shining as Bollywood’s star couple. Instep interviews Nawab and his intrepid bride about upcoming projects, marriage and various interests that are a prominent part of their lives – from fashion to cricket – and of course, they look so young despite the filmy lifestyle. comes

How big a role has marriage played in your favorite movies in recent years?
I’ve made a conscious choice to adopt less but as far as letting marriage dictate which projects I choose, I have to say it hasn’t really been that influential. The projects I turned down were simply because I felt the script wasn’t strong enough or the story line was clichéd. My focus now is on powerful scripts and plots, and if a film doesn’t fall into that category, it’s a deal breaker for me.
Can you tell us about your role in the upcoming films Udta Punjab and Bajrangi Bhaijaan?
In Bajrangi Bhaijaan, I play the role of Rasika, a Hindu girl who falls in love with a Muslim boy. Salman Khan has produced this film and also plays the role of Bajrangi in it. The film has been partially shot in Kashmir and is slated to release this year. Udta Punjab is about drug abuse and drug mafia. It also stars Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh. I am playing a Punjabi girl in the film and I am very excited about the role – it has been a while since I played a typical Punjabi girl.
Do you think Bollywood has a long way to go before it overcomes gender stereotypes?
Things are already changing in the industry. Take last year’s surprise hit Queen for example. It was an entirely female-centric film and the audience loved it. So I think we are well on our way to overcoming those obstacles.
You are a popular face in Pakistan due to your films as well as regular lawn campaigns with Faraz Manan. Can you share your experience with the designer and tell us what you think about the lawn itself?
One of the reasons I agreed to Faraz Manan’s campaign is because I loved his designs. The prints are bold and vibrant, and can be a sight for sore eyes during the scorching summer months. Working with the team was great because they would sit down with me and discuss the shoot. He would explain the creative process behind it and was very open to my suggestions. The team was totally professional and worked very hard to make the whole thing possible.
You have also endorsed brands in Pakistan. How do you decide on your endorsements?
It all depends on the product. If it’s a product I believe in, if it lives up to the promises made to consumers, I endorse it. This is why I chose to endorse Head and Shoulders. It really helps me have a healthy scalp and beautiful hair.
You recently walked down the runway at LFW and were quite the crowd pleaser. What does fashion mean to you and how important is it in a star’s life?
As celebrities, we are constantly in the public eye. Every move we make is scrutinized and debated so I think it’s important to be ‘current’ and updated on the latest trends. Having said that, celebrities should also strive to develop a personal style – one that is unique and reflects their individuality. It doesn’t matter if it’s quirky; Sometimes pushing the envelope can be a good thing.

You have several films in the pipeline, such as the soon-to-be-released political thriller Phantom, directed by Kabir Khan. What can you tell us about your character Daniel? Was it a challenge to play the role and what was it like to work with Katrina Kaif again?
Daniyal is the main character of the film so his path is difficult. His quest for justice takes him across continents but as you’ll see in the film, it comes with a price – in Daniel’s case a very personal one. Playing such a character is always a challenge as you have to portray the quirks of the personality without detracting from the story.
The challenge for me was Daniel’s quest and what it meant to him as a person. I learned a bit of Kurdish for this film so yes, it has been a challenge despite playing an interesting role. Katrina is always a pleasure to work with as she is easy going and committed to her work. Along with this, I also have films with Sujoy Ghosh, Vikram Aditya Motwane and Vishal Bhardwaj.
You have been in the film production business for six years. Have you ever thought of turning to film direction?
Directing is hard work and requires months of planning before filming begins. I don’t think I’m cut out to be a director because it requires a lot of patience. But you never know, maybe one day…
Cricket is in your blood and your interviews show a great understanding of the game. We wonder why you didn’t choose an IPL team.
I tried before but it’s too expensive. Honestly, it takes a lot of time to make this kind of work so why not just focus on being an actor and producer?
You’ve said you look better than ever in your 40s, and we agree! What is the secret behind your youth?
I have now decided to take better care of myself by incorporating smart food choices and exercise into my daily routine. I guess it really shows when you take care of yourself. As for my skin, I think the increased water intake has really worked wonders. Also, just keep your face free of dirt and oil!
How do you like to take care of your hair?
Head and shoulders, of course! I don’t have to put in any extra effort because Head & Shoulders does it all for me. It prevents hair fall and dryness so my hair stays healthy. Given that I have such a tight schedule, I don’t really get time to take care of my hair but thanks to Head & Shoulders, I don’t have to worry about that either.
