Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DGISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said on Monday that India may launch a false flag operation through the sea route to spread lies about a major strike on Pakistan.
“We have some evidence that points to India’s false flag operation through sea channels,” Lt Gen Chaudhry said during a closed-door briefing to senior journalists.
The military spokesman today spoke to senior journalists in the country, during which he briefed them on Pakistan-Afghanistan talks, cross-border attacks, counter-terrorism operations, terrorist financing centers and India’s nefarious plans.
Falsely accusing us of allowing drone strikes
He categorically rejected the allegation of the Afghan Taliban government that US drones have been allowed to carry out attacks in Afghanistan.
“This allegation is false,” Lt Gen Chaudhary said, adding that Pakistan has not allowed the US to launch attacks on Afghanistan from its soil.
The army spokesman further clarified that there is no agreement between Islamabad and Washington that allows the latter to invade Afghanistan.
The briefing came amid a fragile ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which was extended after day-long Istanbul talks from October 25 to 30, where the two sides also reached an understanding to establish a monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure peace and punish any violations.
In the next round of talks, Islamabad and Kabul will finalize the operational details of the joint framework in Istanbul on November 6.
Opium cultivation financing militancy
DG ISPR told reporters that Pakistan had killed a number of terrorists from across the border, identified as many Afghan nationals, and highlighted the widespread financing of opium cultivation into militancy.
A military spokesman, outlining a series of recent operations and allegations, said 112 foreign fighters had been killed in clashes over the past three to four months and that about 60 percent of the militants were Afghan nationals.
“In these operations, 206 Afghan army soldiers were also reported killed,” he added. The spokesman said that anti-narcotics activity formed an important part of the campaign.
He said that terrorism of KP is related to narco-economics.
“Drones, ANF and Frontier Corps destroyed poppy fields in Tira Valley,” DG ISPR said, referring to operations that targeted cultivation and processing sites.
He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has about 12,000 acres under poppy cultivation and the profit ranges from Rs 1.8 million to Rs 3.2 million per acre. “Local politicians and others are involved in this cultivation,” he warned.
‘Taliban failed to respect Doha agreement’
The military spokesman said that Islamabad’s problem was caused by the Afghan Taliban’s failure to respect the Doha agreement.
“The Taliban promised a Loya Jirga and a representative government in Doha, but they have not fulfilled that promise,” he said, stressing a political settlement while leaving the option of further steps open.
“We want peace and prefer dialogue. If talks fail, we will consider other means,” he added.
The statement also accused elements in Afghanistan of providing safe havens for militants from Balochistan and using them as human shields to move militants into civilian areas.
DG ISPR defended and targeted the Army’s actions and vowed that Pakistan would act to protect its regional security if needed.
After attending the briefing, Geo News anchorperson Hameed Mir said Chaudhry presented evidence to reporters about the involvement of Afghan Taliban soldiers in terrorism in Pakistan.
He added that he was presented with the same evidence that Pakistani officials had shared with the Afghan Taliban during the Doha talks.
