Security forces have successfully repulsed unprovoked attacks launched by Afghan Taliban fighters in Balochistan’s Spinboldak area, the army’s media wing said in a statement on Wednesday.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “In the early hours of October 15, the Afghan Taliban resorted to a cowardly attack at four locations in the Spinboldak region of Balochistan. The attack was effectively repulsed by Pakistani forces.”
It said the attacks were carried out by disaffected villages in the Spinboldak area with no regard for the civilian population.
The statement added that the Afghan Taliban also destroyed the Pak-Afghan friendship gate on their behalf, which the ISPR said clearly shows the mentality of the divided tribes regarding mutual trade and easement rights.
While repulsing the attack, 15-20 Afghan Taliban were killed and many were injured, ISPR said.
“The situation is still developing. There are reports of further construction in Fitna Al Khurj and Afghan Taliban staging points,” it added.
The ISPR added that the Spinboldak incident was not isolated, noting that on the night of October 14 and 15, the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Kharj attempted to attack Pakistani border posts in the Karam sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The army’s media wing said the attacks had been effectively repulsed, causing heavy damage to Afghan posts.
“Eight [Afghan] The posts, including six tanks, were destroyed in an effective but proportionate response by Pakistani troops. The statement added that 25-30 Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Kharj fighters have been killed.
Rejecting the allegations by the Taliban, the army described them as outrageous and outright lies, similar to claims of seizure of Pakistani mail or goods. ISPR asserted that “propaganda of the Taliban regime can be debunked by checking basic facts.”
The statement concluded, “The Armed Forces are committed and fully prepared to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan. All acts of aggression against Pakistan will be responded with full force.”
“Afghan Taliban’s Request for Ceasefire”
Security sources said on Wednesday that the Afghan Taliban have requested a ceasefire following retaliatory strikes by the Pakistan Army in Aspinboldak-Chaman sector following a cross-border offensive.
He said Pakistani forces responded decisively to attacks launched by the Afghan Taliban, targeting their positions along the Pak-Afghan border.
Security sources said that several Taliban posts, tanks and personnel were attacked during the retaliatory operations.
He said that the Afghan Taliban circulated fake videos on social media, claiming that it had captured Pakistani weapons. “There is no truth to the fake news spread by the Afghan Taliban on social media,” security sources clarified.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed concern over the provocation of the Afghan Taliban, Fitna al-Hamandistan, and Fitna al-Kharj on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
In a statement, the Prime Minister lauded the security forces for foiling the attack by the Afghan Taliban in the Karam sector.
“Using Afghan soil for terrorist incidents in Pakistan is highly condemnable,” he said.
High tension
Against the backdrop of increasing terrorist attacks in Pakistan, the reluctance of the interim Afghan government to act against terrorist groups is being witnessed.
Since the return of Taliban rule to Afghanistan in 2021, particularly in the bordering provinces of KP and Balochistan, the country has witnessed an increase in cross-border terrorist incidents.
The two countries share an unsecured border that spans about 2,2500 km with several crossing points, which are important as an important element of regional trade and a vital element of people-to-people relations on both sides of the border.
However, the issue of terrorism remains a major issue for Pakistan, which has urged Afghanistan to prevent its territory from being attacked by groups like the TTP inside the former territory.
Islamabad’s concerns are also confirmed by a report submitted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) by the Analytical Cooperation and Sanctions Monitoring Team, which revealed a nexus between Kabul and the TTP, with the former providing logistical, operational, and financial support to the latter.
Pakistan has hosted Afghans for more than four decades since the Soviet invasion in 2021 through the Taliban takeover. Some refugees were born and brought up in Pakistan. Others are still awaiting relocation to a third country.
According to media reports, more than 554,000 Afghans have been repatriated since April 2025 under Pakistan’s illegal alien repatriation plan, following a 2023 crackdown on undocumented Afghans and illegal aliens.
