Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday hailed US President Donald Trump as “a real peacemaker” for his contribution to ending the war in Gaza.
Standing alongside the US president and other world leaders during a press conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, after signing the Gaza peace deal, the prime minister said the world was witnessing “the greatest day in modern history”.
The Prime Minister remarked that peace has been achieved after months of tireless diplomatic efforts led by President Trump, who have made the world a “place to live in peace and prosperity”.
The crackdown by world leaders was held moments after mediators Egypt, Qatar and Turkey signed a document on a Gaza ceasefire agreement with the US president. The document was signed during an international summit hosted by Egypt at the Red Sea Resort in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Before the signing, Hamas released the last surviving Israeli hostages from Gaza under the deal, and Israel sent home loads of Palestinian detainees.
The cease-fire and partial Israeli withdrawal agreed last week halted one of the biggest culprits of Israel’s war, an all-out assault on Gaza City that was killing scores of people daily.
The prime minister said Pakistan had earlier nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his “outstanding and extraordinary contribution” in preventing a possible war between India and Pakistan and achieving a ceasefire.
‘Favorite’ filed a marshal
“Today, once again, I would like to [re-]Nominate this great president [Trump] Prime Minister Shehbaz said that for the Nobel Peace Prize. Because I genuinely feel that he is the most deserving candidate.
“Through their efforts in Gaza, they have brought peace to millions not only in South Asia, but also in the Middle East.”
The prime minister praised Trump as “the man the world needed at this time”, adding that history will remember him as the leader who “stopped seven and today, eight wars.”
“If it weren’t for that gentleman [Trump]”A full-scale war could have broken out between the two nuclear powers,” Shahbaz said. His timely intervention prevented the disaster. “
The prime minister concluded by saying that Trump’s “vision and exemplary leadership” have made him a symbol of hope and peace for the world, and that his name will be “remembered in golden words.”
He also expressed gratitude to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thanawi for his role in supporting peace efforts in the region.
The words of Prime Minister Shehbaz, the US President, pressed, saying that he did not expect so much praise for his efforts towards peace in the region.
Before welcoming the prime minister to speak, he thanked the prime minister for his cooperation and said that his “favorite” Field Marshal Asim Munir was not present today.
Meetings of the Prime Minister
Before his media interaction with Trump, Prime Minister Shehbaz held several one-on-one meetings with world leaders.
The Prime Minister met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain joining the conversation, reflecting the spirit of regional unity and shared commitment to peace.
During the meeting, President Abbas expressed his deep gratitude to Pakistan for its constant support to the Palestinian people and its constant advocacy on the political and diplomatic fronts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the three leaders expressing satisfaction over the recent ceasefire in Gaza.
