Authorities confirmed Saturday that seven policemen were martyred and five militants, including suicide bomber, were killed during a terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The deadly attack was carried out on Friday night at a police training school.
According to police, heavy armed attackers attacked the training facility after launching a suicide bombing. The firing began between the attackers and the officers deployed, who managed to hold their land and push the militants back.
A senior police official said the gun war quickly turned in favor of the security forces, who eliminated the attackers, before the additional reinforcements reached to help achieve the premises.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Hafiz Mohammad Adnan said police and security forces successfully repelled the militants, saying that all the terrorists involved in the attack have been eliminated. The terrorists launched the attack around 8:30 pm, he said. He added that the operation to eliminate the attackers continued at night.
Meanwhile, the director of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Truma Center has reported that 13 injured personnel have been shifted to facilities for medical treatment after the attack.
Talking to the media, the Director General Public Relations said that more than 200 police officers and recruits at the training school were rescued safely at the time of the attack. He also confirmed that the office of the Police Training School and the National Database and the Registration Authority (NADRA), which was in danger, has been completely cleared during the operation.
The attack strongly condemned Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, calling it a process of cowardice by terrorists.
In a statement released on Saturday, the minister paid rich tributes to the seven policemen who bravely confronted the attackers and accepted the testimony.
Naqvi said, “Police officers lived their lives to thwart the attack, which turned the terrorist’s blatant design into dust.”
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the martyrs’ family and offered prayers for the rapid recovery of the injured personnel.
The Home Minister praised the courage and commitment of the officers and said that the police force bravely fought and successfully neutralized the threat.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have made unprecedented sacrifices in the fight against terrorism,” he added.
“The whole nation salutes the brave sons of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for their bravery and dedication.”
Naqvi confirmed the government’s commitment to continue the fight against terrorism and emphasized that such attacks would not weaken the national will.
Senate acting chairman Syedal Khan also condemned the attack, saying that the purpose of the terrorists is to destabilize the country but they will not succeed in their designs.
He praised the bravery of the police force, praised their sacrifices, and emphasized that the nation is united against terrorism.
He said, “The blood of our brave sanitians will not be bleeding. Pakistan’s commitment to terrorism is irrevocable.”
The Khan is in the cross of terrorists
