Chicago/WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday called for the imprisonment of both Democrats, the mayor of Chicago and the governor of Illinois, as his administration prepared plans to send military troops to the streets of the country’s third largest city.
Neither Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson nor Illinois Governor JB Pratzkar has been accused of criminal wrongdoing, though the two are prominent as prominent opponents of Trump’s immigration crackdown and the deployment of National Guard forces in Democratic Tande cities.
Trump’s demand to imprison both elected officials has emerged as another high -level political rival, James Kami, for former FBI director James Kami, which will make him appear in court to face criminal charges, which has been widely criticized.
Trump has called for his opponents to be jailed for the first time in 2015 since entering politics, but Kami is facing the first trial.
On his social media platform, Trump accused Johnson and Pratzkar of failing to protect immigration officers who are working in Chicago.
“The mayor of Chicago should be in jail for failing to protect the ice officers! Governor Pratzkar too!” Trump wrote in citing US immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel.
Johnson signed an executive order on Monday to create an “ice -free zone”, which forbids federal immigration agents from using city property in their operations.
“This is not the first time that Trump has tried to arrest a black man illegally,” he said on social media. I’m not going anywhere. “
Pratzkar, a potential Democratic presidential candidate of 2028, said that he would not back down. “Trump is now demanding the arrest of elected representatives who examine his power. What else is left on the path of dictatorship?”
Trump has pledged to use the federal government’s power to target his enemies. Except for Kami, his department is investigating several other high -level critics. Everyone has denied the wrongdoing, and it is expected that Kami will not be guilty of lying charges in the Congress.
Meanwhile, a federal judge ruled that the ICE violated the 2022 agreement, which restricted the agency’s capabilities in several mid -Western states to arrest immigrants without any warrant, in the opinion that Trump had returned to the post.
US District Judge Jeffrey Kumings said the agency had falsely announced that the agreement had been canceled and extended by February.
Troops from Chicago
Hundreds of Texas’ national guards have gathered outside Chicago, on the objections of Pratzkar, Johnson and other Democratic leaders in the state. Trump has threatened to deploy troops to more US cities, which he said last week that he could act as a “training field” for the armed forces.
Reuters/IPSOS survey released on Wednesday found that most Americans oppose the deployment of troops without external threat.
Trump has ordered Guard Tropes to go to Chicago and Portland, Oregon, after his previous deployment to Los Angeles and Washington, DC. In every case, it has denied strong opposition from democratic mayors and governors, who say that Trump’s lawlessness and violence claims do not reflect the truth. He has also said that he will send a soldier to Memphis.
“My goal is very easy. Stop crime in the United States!” He wrote on his social media platform.
Many US cities have been suffering a violent crime since the growing cases of a Kovade era, and the National Guard soldiers have been used widely to protect federal facilities, not to fight street crime.
Far from the terms stated by the Trump administration officials, local officials, protests in Chicago and Portland, were widely peaceful and limited.
Outside Chicago, in a Broadway in Illinois, four protesters placed signs and shouted slogans in front of the wall of heavy armed officers on Wednesday. The administration has said that the National Guard soldiers can be sent to protect the facility, but no one has reached the afternoon.
Pratzkar has accused Trump of trying to thwart violence to justify further militancy, and his state has filed a lawsuit to stop the deployment. A federal judge allowed him to be appointed on Monday to move forward for time. Another federal judge has stopped his deployment in Portland.
Trump has threatened that any court has requested an anti -anarchy law to stop any court to stop it, which was last summoned during the 1992 Los Angeles riots.
