After a thorough review of the draft agreement, the government’s negotiating team and the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) have successfully reached a settlement, which has effectively eliminated the weeks of unrest, which led to violent protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Earlier, dialogue between the JAAC, the AJ’s government, and the federal ministers had broken the controversial issues, including special privileges and the allocation of refugee seats.
The AJK has suffered from unrest since the massive peaceful movement began, rival groups have been protesting and accused each other of violence.
Fatal clashes between protesters and security forces have killed at least 10 people and injured dozens more.
On Thursday, a new round of talks between a senior government team and the civil society Alliance took place on Friday.
Federal Minister Tariq Fazil Chaudhry, a member of the Prime Minister’s team, said the delegation had signed a final agreement with the joint action body.
With the federal team in Muzaffarabad, Chaudhry posted on X, saying that both sides have resolved their differences. He termed the deal a “victory for peace”, adding that the protesters are now heading to their homes and all roads have been reopened.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif welcomed the successful results of the talks between the government and the JAAC, demanding restoration of peace and demanding a positive development back to normal.
He praised the government’s efforts, and praised his members for their dedication and hard work in resolving the crisis through dialogue.
The Prime Minister said, “The government is fully prepared to solve the problems facing our Kashmiri brothers.” “Public interest and peace are our top priorities, and we will continue to serve the people of Azad Kashmir with full commitment.”
“We have always been and will be the strongest guards of the rights of our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. The concerns of Azad Kashmir have always been the focus of our government.”
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Actions Ahsan Iqbal also welcomed the development, calling it a victory for Pakistan, Azad Kashmir and democracy.
He took the X and said, “The people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir have always been standing on the frontiers of the national purpose of Pakistan, and their voices have a lot of weight.”
“Over the past week, we have seen that a difficult situation has led to legitimate public concerns,” he added.
“It was the spirit of the wisdom and dialogue of the local and national leadership that helped us to resolve this position in peace, without division, without division, and mutual respect, peacefully.”
Iqbal emphasized that this resolution was not a one -sided victory. “This is the victory of the people of AJK, Pakistan and democracy. This shows that when the government listens, and when people are constructively engaged, we can find solutions together.”
He praised the role of the Joint Action Committee and said, “The Joint Action Committee raised the voice of the citizens, and the government under Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif took these voices seriously.
Instead of confrontation, we chose consultation. Instead of Agos, we chose sympathy.
The minister concluded: “We pledge to work together for good governance and development in AJK.”
Talking to the media, Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s Advisor, thanked the JAAC for his thanks for taking part in the debates and expressed deep grief over the loss of lives on both sides during the recent unrest.
Sanaullah added that all legitimate demands of the JAAC have been accepted, and it has marked a step towards resolving the crisis peacefully.
Key points of agreement between Federal Ministers Committee and JAAC:
- Under the Anti -Terrorism Laws, cases will be filed for violent incidents.
- On October 1 and 2, the families of the deceased will be compensated.
- The families of the protesters will get the same compensation as the families of the personnel.
- The injured will receive every one lakh rupees.
- A 20 -day government job will be given to a member of the deceased protesters.
- Two additional secondary education boards will be set up in Muzaffarabad and Poonch within 30 days.
- All three AJ’s secondary boards will be connected to the Federal Board.
- The current Local Government Act will be restored within 90 days according to judicial decisions.
- The AJ’s government will release funds for health cards within 15 days.
- MRI and CT scan machines will be provided with federal funding in all AJK districts.
- The Pakistan government will provide Rs 10 billion to improve the power system in AJK.
- The size of the AJ cabinet will be reduced to 20 ministers and advisers.
- The number of management secretaries will not be more than 20.
- Civil defense departments will be integrated into the SDMA.
- Accountability Bureau and Anti -Corruption will be integrated.
- The AJK Accountability Act will be linked to Pakistan’s NAB laws.
- The feasibility reports of two tunnels in AJK will be prepared by the Pakistan Government.
- According to PC1 guidelines, the project will be given priority under the Saudi Development Fund.
- A high -power committee of legal and constitutional experts will be constituted.
- The committee will consult the elected members from outside the AJK.
- Unless the committee submits its last report, the privileges of these members will remain suspended.
- Until the final report is submitted, financing, ministry status, and other facilities will be maintained for these members.
