Iran on Sunday called the restoration of UN sanctions on its nuclear program “unprecedented”.
The steps, which are a bar of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear and ballistic missile activities, implemented overnight after mobilizing the so -called “Snapback” mechanism of Western powers under the 2015 nuclear deal.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “Re -mobilizing the canceled resolutions is legal and baseless … All countries should refrain from recognizing this illegal situation.”
It added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will firmly defend its national rights and interests, and the purpose of any action will be a firm and appropriate reaction to disrupt the rights and interests of its people.”
The withdrawal of sanctions ends months of tension, which aims to restore nuclear talks since June, when Israeli and US forces bombed Iranian nuclear facilities.
Despite its reform, Western leaders called on channels for talks.
The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kalis, said on Sunday that the restoration of sanctions “diplomacy should not be eliminated”.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Iran to “accept direct talks with good faith”.
He also called on the UN member states to “implement Iranian leaders for their nation, which is right, and implement sanctions on pressure to work best to protect the world.”
The British, French and German ministers said in a joint statement that they would continue to find a new diplomatic solution to ensure that Iran never received nuclear weapons.
However, Iranian President Masood Pazeshkian on Sunday rejected any nuclear talks that would cause “new problems”.
According to the ISNA News Agency, “We have always announced our preparations for a clear quality logical, fair and fair dialogue, but we will never accept the dialogue that will cause us new problems and problems.”
He noted, “The country is ready to face any situation,” he added, “Our path is to be maintained, rely on people’s power, and go to a bright future with dignity.”
‘No Own’
Iran had allowed UN inspectors to return to its nuclear places, but Pizeshakian said in a previous remarks that the United States had offered only a brief recovery in exchange for handing over the full reservoir of enriched uranium, which called it unacceptable.
Iran’s ally Russia and China’s 11th -hour attempt failed to win sanctions in the Security Council on Friday, resulting in the steps taken at 3:30 am in Tehran (0000 GMT) on Sunday.
Foreign Minister Johann Widfol said Germany, which gave rise to the return of sanctions along the UK and France, had “no choice” because Iran was not complying with its responsibilities.
He told the UN General Assembly, “For us, it is important: Iran should never acquire nuclear weapons.”
“But let me emphasize: We are open to negotiating a new deal. Diplomacy can continue and it should continue.”
Iran has long claimed that it is not looking for nuclear weapons.
The Islamic Republic’s newspapers reacted conflicting to the reaction of sanctions.
The ultra -reservoir newspaper, which opposes talks with the United States, suggested that sanctions would have been imposed even if Iran had engaged in negotiations.
Reformist Daily Ham Mehan wrote: “The big question is whether Russia and China will maintain their status”.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made it clear on Saturday that Moscow would not enforce the sanctions.
Economic impact
The sanctions are a “snapback” of the frozen measures in 2015 when Iran agreed to major sanctions on its nuclear program under a negotiating agreement by former President Barack Obama.
When President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in his first term, the United States had already imposed massive sanctions.
Iran and the United States made several cycles of Omani broken talks earlier this year before attacking Iranian nuclear facilities in June, and then the United States.
On the ground, the Iranians have already expressed regret over the potential impact of new sanctions on the suppressed economy.
“The current (economic) situation was already very difficult, but it is even worse,” said an Iranian engineer.
The 50 -year -old complained, “The effects of renewed sanctions are already clear: the exchange rate is rising, and more prices are causing,” the 50 -year -old complained, complaining that quality life is “much less” than two or three years ago.
According to the currency -tracking website Bonbast and Alcheland, economic tensions were brought to the fore when the Iranian Rial Black Market decreased a record against the US dollar, with a currency -tracking website Bonbast and Allende, about 1.12 million dollars.
