It is unusual for two batsmen to participate in the century partnership in both innings of a test. The feat was first presented in Sydney in December 1924, when the famous opening duo of Jack Hubs and Herbert Skill’s famous opening pair added 157 runs for the first wicket in England’s first innings and then followed it with 110 in the second. Sadly, his efforts were useless because in Australia still won the match easily.
There have been only 52 incidents in the long history of Test cricket so far, with a couple of batsmen playing together for construction partnerships in both innings of a Test match. Pakistan, England and India have reached this discrimination on every nine occasions. South Africa are next with seven.
The first time a Pakistani duo arrived at the milestone in the home series against New Zealand in 1976. The third test in Karachi was a scene of many records. Pakistan made the first strike and Majid Khan scored a century before lunch in a display of Sabelim Stroke Play, which was the first batsman to do so for 46 years. Subsequently, Captain Musk Mohammad and the search for the series, Javed Miandad collected a 252 -run stand for the fourth wicket, with the knock of Madad 206 becoming the youngest double centurion in the history of the test history. Meanwhile, the common man made 107, in his second century in his second century. In Pakistan’s second innings, the pair once again blew up the Kiwi attack, and added 138 runs for the fifth wicket when Pakistan advanced to Tempo to give itself a long time to advance New Zealand. Posing risks to score quickly, Mindad lost the second century of the match by only 15 runs, while the joint 67 was unbeaten. On the last day, the Kiwis succeeded in controlling only a draw against the Pakistani attack on Sarfraz Nawaz’s illness.
It was a quarter of a century when another Pakistani batting pair managed the feat. The opposition was once again New Zealand, in a test in Auckland in March 2001. Younus Khan, with 91 and 42, in two and a quarter of hours, Faisal Iqbal, in Pakistan’s first knock, gathered in the 5th wicket stand of 132. In his second innings, he performed even better with an undisclosed partnership of 147 for the 6th wicket. Younus did not dismiss 149 with just 182 balls while the decisions did not match 52. Pakistan won beautifully with the match -winning margin of 299 runs. The game was the first test played on the drop -in -pitch Innoland. The venue was Auckland’s famous Eden Park, a multi -purpose stadium where Test cricket is with mutual cooperation as well as international rugby.
Two and a half years later, the feat was repeated in October 2003 by another Pakistani batting duo in the home Test against South Africa Atalhoor. Inauguration for Pakistan, Imran Farhat and Tofik Omar started their team for a century in both innings of this test. Together, he scored 109 runs in the first innings, before Imran was dismissed for 41, while Tofek arranged 111 before losing his wicket. In Pakistan’s second outing, the two batsmen scored 134 runs in the initial partnership, with both batsmen scoring the fifties. It was the first time, and so far was the only chance, when the milestone of the century’s partnership in both innings of a test arrived by a left -handed batsman. The thing that makes it even more unique is that, in fact, they both bowling with the right hand and batting left -handed. His efforts in this match played a major role in enabled the 8 -wicket Pakistani victory, which is his first Test win against South Africa at home. Interestingly, Imran and Tofek also established another century partnership in Faisalabad against South Africa, in the first innings of the next Test, thus doing three consecutive tests for the opening wicket through the same pair.
In January 2006, India, Younis Khan, once again included a similar achievement at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. This time his colleague was Mohammad Yousuf. In a high -scoring test, Younis and Yousuf scored 142 for the third wicket, with both players contributing to the fifties. In the second innings, his partnership was even more fruitful and scored 242 for the third wicket, Younus scored 194 and Joseph 126. In fact, it was the third century stand between the two, which was already in the third wicket partnership of 319 in Pakistan’s only innings in the previous examination of the series in Lahore. Yunus’s large century was more than fifty against India in the last seven innings, with a total of 974 runs in this purple patch, with an average of 162.33 in each innings. The remarkable run included double centuries, two scores in the 190s, two scores of 147 and 80, figures that will also embarrass Don Bradman.
In 2011, five years after the last occasion, Younis Khan was once again involved in this extraordinary achievement. Playing against New Zealand in Wellington, Pakistan’s first innings in Younis and Misbah scored in partnership for the fourth wicket in 142 in a patient, which won in 50 overs. Unfortunately, the two batsmen scored with Misbah in the fifties, which rejected only one run that he deserves. In Pakistan’s second innings, the couple came together for the fifth day when Pakistan was walking 42 for 42 in search of a target of 274. They resurrected the innings and added 118 invaluable runs, before Younis fell on a drawing paralysis for a tea break for 81. Unbeaten on 70.
Pakistan played Australia in the UAE’s adoption house in the winter of 2014 and surpassed Auses in every field of sports. In the second Test in Abu Dhabi, Pakistan batted first and received 570 for 6 for centuries announced from Azhar Ali, Younis Khan and Misbah -ul -Haq. Younus scored a double century and felt 236 runs in his third wicket partnership with Azhar. In Pakistan’s second innings, Younis and Azhar played with an Asi -bowling attack and gathered 131 runs when Pakistan scored nearly five runs and reached 293 for 3. Another statistics mark came when both Azhar and Captain Misbah increased their innings in the innings for centuries as well as Pakistan’s first knock. Pakistan won the test by a comprehensive margin of 356 runs, which is the biggest test win in the case of runs. In the first innings, Yunus’ third consecutive Test was against Australia in the century, which was last presented by Herbert Stall in the 1924-25 Ashes series against Asee 90 years ago.
When Pakistan visited Bangladesh in 2021, in the first Test of the Gogram, Pakistani openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafiq made an initial partnership of 146, which formed a total of 286 of the team’s first innings. He scored 151 runs in 42.5 overs while Pakistan won 8 wickets easily, which is an anticicalmactic end, which ended on the fourth day of tea. Abid Ali lost a century easily in every innings when he was trapped in Pakistan’s second knock before for 91. Abdullah Shafiq, who was stepping in his Test, saluted with fifty in both innings, the fifth Pakistani player, to do so in the first Test film.
Just three months later, another Pakistani opening pair repeated the feat. Playing against Australia on the domestic turf in Rawalpindi in March 2022, Abdullah Shafaq and Amul Haq started with the opening stand of 105 runs when Pakistan scored 476 for 4 wickets before the announcement. The game was already on a special draw, when Pakistan started its second innings on the fourth day. Playing easily on a lifeless track, Imam and Abdullah Shafiq scored 252 runs before they were shaken and ending a drama match proceedings. The Imam responded to his doubts with one hundred in each innings, only becoming the third Pakistani opener to do so. The Test also provided the first example of three hundreds through Pakistani openers in the Test match and marked the cricket history only for the eighth time when the opening batsmen of any team managed to do so.
The last time a Pakistani batting pair gathered a center Partnership in both innings of a test in January 2023, when Sarfraz Ahmed and Saud Shakeel became members of the special club against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi. With a score of Pakistan, with 182 runs, he scored 150 runs in the first innings, before Sarfraz stumped for 78. Saud Shakeel was unbeaten on 125 in his team total 408. In Pakistan’s second innings, the pair added 123 runs for the sixth wicket, when Sarfraz scored the career -best 118. The match ended in a tantalizing draw when the bad light stopped the game with three overs, Pakistan needed only 15 runs for victory and his last wicket in the crease. Interestingly, this was the first Test series that Sarfraz was playing on the home ground in Pakistan despite being a veteran of 49 Tests before the rubber.
It is noteworthy that Yunus Khan has been one of the nine occasions in which a Pakistani batting pair has published a century partnership in each innings of a test. No other player in any country has done so often, as well as de Villiers are now the next batsmen who have reached this milestone in the line. Pakistan won 4 of these 9 Tests and 5 drops.
