When Audi’s executives first encountered Zack R 001 in 2021-a sleek, a long-range electric car that has a European style-it served as a wake-up call. To maintain harmony with Chinese car makers, the German brand realized that it had to adopt their technology.
“Zack R. 001, again, surprised everyone,” said Stephen Poetaz, president of SAIC Audi Sales and Marketing. “We needed to do something about it.”
In response, the Audi developed E5 Sportback in just 18 months, relying on its Chinese partner SAIC technology, including batteries, electric power trains, infotation software, and high driver relief systems.
Audi is expected to start providing 000 33,000 EV users this month in China, and its global rivals are still seeking to use Chinese intellectual property to start new models. Toyota and Volkswagen have joint development projects for Chinese -led models, which have the technology of Chinese partners GAC and XPing, respectively.
Sources said that Renault and Ford want to go one step further and create a global model on the Chinese EV platforms. Renault did not respond to a comment. Ford refused to make any comment.
