The federal government on Wednesday declared climate and agriculture emergency after the devastating floods after severe human and financial loss across the country.
The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazil Chaudhry at a press conference with Minister Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik after a meeting of the Federal Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Chaudhry said that the Prime Minister has decided – and the cabinet has endorsed it – the immediate implementation of the climate emergency.
Climate change, he said, is one of the most debated articles already globally and is affecting Pakistan by changing weather samples.
“Unfortunately, in the past decades, we failed to protect our forests and trees, while the encroachments tightened the natural waterways – rivers, rivers and channels, which allowed it to easily pass by rain water.”
“This has worsened the flood situation that we are seeing today,” he said.
The minister further said that the minister was given the task of presenting a comprehensive report to the Prime Minister within 15 days.
The cabinet deliberately on the report how can Pakistan cope with these climate challenges and develop an effective strategy to protect the nation from such destructive losses in the future.
“Since 2022, we have witnessed the devastation caused by floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit -Baltistan and Punjab.
“Now, this water is flowing into Sindh with a five -river basin, and our prayers and efforts are also focused on minimizing the losses there,” he said.
The Minister said that the floods have spread widespread destruction, especially during the cabinet meeting – especially with agriculture, human and financial losses.
Prime Minister Shahbaz expressed deep concern over the situation.
He said an emergency of agriculture will help to assess the damage to agriculture across the country and will determine how farmers can be compensated for their losses.
Chaudhry emphasized that without the cooperation, cooperation and consultation of the provincial governments, climate and agriculture challenges cannot be resolved.
Therefore, the Prime Minister has decided to convene an immediate meeting of all provincial stakeholders, headed by his concerned Prime Minister.
“This country belongs to all of us, and together we have to overcome its challenges,” he said, adding that GB and AJK’s stakeholders will also participate.
Center to compensate the losses, province
At today’s cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shahbaz mentioned that the threat was not over yet as the flood flood was moving towards Sindh province.
He emphasized that federal and provinces will help to meet the losses.
The Prime Minister said that various crops like wheat and cotton are being estimated about the losses, which further said that about 1,000 one thousand lives were lost while thousands of people were displaced, which caused a large number of land to be cultivated.
He called for a comprehensive roadmap and strategy to overcome the challenges arising from climate change, which was decreasing the country with a continuous conflict of devastating effects.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister noted that the recent floods and rains have caused widespread destruction throughout the country with huge human and financial losses.
Regarding his recent visit to China, he said he held bilateral meetings with the Chinese leadership.
He called the Business Conference in China a “very effective and good one” and praised Cabinet members, the Special Investment Facility Council (SIFC), the Deputy Premier and the Finance Minister, and the officials for making the program a success.
Prime Minister Shahbaz emphasized the need for followups, which he said that it was necessary and he made it loud and clear that he would not allow “any king, or too delay”, which had marked the history of the country in seven half decades.
He said that the Pakistan -China B2B Investment Conference in Beijing concluded with $ 8.5 billion contracts, which identified an important step toward changing bilateral economic cooperation,
The Prime Minister informed that under China, Pakistan Economic Transit (CPEC) Phase II will focus on agriculture sector and China will invest 85 % in various projects under its umbrella while 15 % will be invested by Pakistan.
He added that US companies will also invest in the search for mines and minerals in Pakistan using modern technology, adding that they are keen to strengthen strategic partnerships with China and want to improve relations with the United States.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the bravery of Adnan Aslam Shaheed, who accepted the martyrdom while fighting with fitness workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
He said he had attended his last rites where he met members of the bereaved family, whose morale was as high as the late son.
The Prime Minister praised security forces officers and personnel who were sacrificing their lives while fighting with the enemies of the country.
He also emphasized the need to discourage the elements who condemned the security forces on social media.
The Prime Minister said that it was his responsibility to separate such elements and identify them and withdraw them, with an unprecedented determination.
He said such a contradictory attitude towards the armed forces was unbearable and was declared ‘fatte’ which should be crushed.
