KARACHI: Karachi: Monday evening, Karachi observed moderate rainfall when the Pakistan Department of Department (PMD) predicted “very heavy rain” and thunderstorms in Metropolis till Tuesday.
The areas that witness the light rain are included in the II Chandgarh Road and its adjoining areas, while heavy rains received heavy rains in some areas near Shahria Faisal and several blocks of Gulistan-Jahar.
Gulshan also receives high rainfall in the areas of Headid, M9 motorway and Scheme 33.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab advised the citizens to take precautionary measures in different parts of the metropolis.
He urged the residents to avoid unnecessary travel and check the road conditions before going out. Citizens can call the city’s emergency helpline in 1915 for guidance and assistance, he said.
The mayor assured that the people would be constantly refreshed and it was said that the situation was under control.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department released the record records recorded in different parts of Karachi, which said that the highest rainfall was seen on University Road, 8.8 mm was recorded.
According to statistics, Gulshan-Miamar got 8 mm, 7 mm in Gulshan-e-Headed, while 6.6 mm measured at the old airport and 4.3 mm in Saadi Town.
In other areas, Korangi recorded 4 mm, PAF Base Shara-E-Faizal 3 mm, Jinnah Terminal 2.8 mm and Nazimabad 1.5 mm. Northern Karachi and Kamari rained 1.2 mm and 1 mm respectively.
Earlier, the PMD had warned that Karachi could be subjected to “very heavy rain” at the end of the day and tomorrow (Tuesday), as a powerful monsoon system remains in the form of a deep depression on the ground, its center is located on Tharparkar in Sindh.
The PMD spokesman said the system would pass near Karachi on Tuesday, warning that the city’s situation could “remain severe”, with strong winds of 60 to 70 km per hour during magic.
“The system is causing heavy rainfall and can provide more than 100 mm of rainfall in Karachi throughout the magic,” said Anjum Nazir, a spokesman for the PMD, due to the city’s poor infrastructure.
The lower areas can be submerged, and citizens have been urged to avoid weak infrastructure and stay indoors during heavy rains.
According to the Met Office from 5pm (Sunday to Monday, rain data, Karachi recorded light rain in several areas, Korangi received the highest rainfall in 8 mm. Mm, Kamari 4 mm, Jinnah Terminal 3 mm and Surjani Town 2 mm, PMD.
The Met Office said heavy rainfall with storms and strong winds is expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Alhayar, Jamshoro, Thutta, Badin, Shaheed Benzirabad and other districts.
Earlier, the PMD had said that there were rain in the eastern parts of the Magestine. He added, “These clouds can spread further in the city.
The Met Office warned that “extraordinary rainfall” is expected in Sindh over the next 48 hours.
He added that “sadness” against India’s southwestern Rajasthan and Gujarat has shown strengthening “deep sadness”. The Met Office said the “deep sadness” is likely to enter southeastern Sindh within the next 24 hours.
The PMD warned that the weather system could move towards Balochistan later, and that the rain could take there, while the mountain tuors could be built on the mountainous areas of Dadu.
Sindh government spokesman Saadia Javed said that the province is on high alert, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation staff is deployed throughout the city. He called on the citizens to refrain from leaving the houses unnecessarily and said that the decision regarding the sanctions of the school would be taken after reviewing the NDMA and PMD suggestions.
Mayor inspects the city’s main places during the risk of rain
A spokesman for the city administration said that Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited several parts of the city on Monday morning to review the situation before heavy rains predicted.
The mayor inspected the clifin canal emission and said that the drainage was clean. Wahab said, “Tall waves can make drainage difficult, but we are ready.”
He confirmed that Tariq Road underpass was completely clean and open for regular traffic, while Dary Road underpass was also reopened for public use.
The mayor assured that “staff and machinery are on the ground and the situation is under control.”
Wahab advised citizens to refrain from unnecessary movement during the expected heavy rains.
