On Tuesday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur emphasized that Pakistan Tehreek -e -Insaf (PTI) founder Umar Khan is in favor of the presidential system.
Addressing a press conference, the provincial chief executive said that the former prime minister would get “clean” under the presidential system. “It is true that the current system is not working for us,” he added.
The 71 -year -old cricketer is behind bars after registering a case in several cases from corruption to terrorism in April 2023.
Today, demanding political reconciliation, Gandapur urged all parties to “move beyond the demands of apologies and signs”, and argued that progress was possible when the past was left behind.
He claimed that the distrust between the founder of the Establishment and the PTI said in the past, saying that although he had taken the initiative to start the negotiation process, the effort was later abandoned.
He said, “Only those who apologize have been summoned by those who have done wrong,” he added, adding that the establishment, which “stole our mandate and filed false cases against us”, should be apologetic.
The Chief Minister pointed out that he was not allowed to meet the party’s founder from April 2. “If I have the opportunity to meet them, I will urge them to sit with other political parties once, because it can improve the country.”
However, he acknowledged that Khan believes other parties are “thieves and robbers” and they are not ready to engage with them.
Considering the past talks, Gandapur said there were offers at the Establishment table that he could not disclose, but that he had submitted messages between the two sides.
He remarked, “Sometimes you are pushed to the front for action, sometimes we are,” he added, adding that if something happened in 2018, “it was also wrong”.
He criticized the role of Joy-F-head Maulana Fazller Rehman, claiming that he had “no compatibility” in national politics. Gandapur said that some of the party’s “stupid” party members were unnecessarily meeting them, while the PML -N and the PPP have now preferred the governments of the unity without them.
He claimed, “Whenever Maulana is part of a government, he blackmails him to meet his demands.”
Regarding governance, Gandapur said that the army had never interfered with their administrative work, nor had the transfer or posting in the province. He emphasized that PTI’s policy was to work in every institution in Pakistan in its constitutional domain.
‘BISP Program’
He also criticized the current Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and said that its model needs reform. He suggested that the federal government should allocate Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for two years, and promised to help people set up a business of Rs 500,000.
“Why is it that BISP aid families are trapped in one place? Why are their numbers not diminishing, and why are they not becoming self -reliant?” He asked. He said, “Don’t rely on people on rations.
Talking about development, Gandapur said his government had planned to build two dams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He questioned the water management in Sindh and asked that the province repeatedly suffered a flood.
He said, “If Sindh thinks it will be thirsty, we should sit together and decide. We can give Sindh more than our water,” he said. But Sindh politicians have been accused of being driven by self -serving politics.
‘Kalabag Dam’
Meanwhile, the KP Chief Minister reiterated his support for the construction of the Kalabag Dam, emphasizing that Pakistan needed the project to protect its future water and energy immediately. He called for a national dialogue to create consensus in the provinces and assured that their reservations could be focused.
Gandapur said he was firmly convinced that the Kalabag Dam must be constructed and the matter should be seen in the interest of the state rather than politics. He said, “Pakistan needs Kalabag Dam. Small dams cannot work as alternatives.”
The Chief Minister called on the federal and provincial leadership to start a national debate on the project, and demanded the media to play a part in creating consensus.
Gandapur said on the wider governance issues that he personally supports the creation of more provinces, but only if he can maintain himself financially. He argued that the current provincial system works like “a monarchy”, where millions of citizens, thousands of schools and extensive administrative needs remained under a chief secretary and secretary.
