BEIJING: President Xi Jinping will host more than 20 global leaders at a regional security forum in China next week, which will showcase global solidarity during Donald Trump’s time, while sanctions will be offered another diplomatic promotion to Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with leaders from Central Asia, the Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia, will be among the participants of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit from August 31 to September 1 in the northern port city of Tianzan.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also have the first visit to China in seven years, as the two neighbors try to further reduce tensions after border clashes in 2020.
Modi lastly shared the same stage with XI and Putin at the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan last year, even when Western leaders turned back from the Russian leader during the Ukraine war. Last week, Russian embassy officials in New Delhi said Moscow had hoped that trilateral talks with China and India would be held soon.
“XI will want to use this summit as an opportunity to show that the US -led international order is starting to look like an international order, and that since January, China, Iran, Russia and now India have not intended all the White House’s efforts to counter India.”

A Chinese Foreign Ministry official said last week that this year’s summit would be the largest when the SCO was founded in 2001, calling the block a “major force in a new type of international relations”.
The security -based block, which began as a group of six Eurasian countries, has expanded 10 permanent members and 16 dialogue and observer countries in recent years. Its delivery has also expanded security and counter -terrorism to economic and military cooperation.
‘Fiji’ NAGE
Analysts say that many countries are extended to the agenda of participation, but agree that the block has not presented the results of cooperation over the past years, and that China has the value of unity against the United States at the time of immoral policy -making and geographical political flow.
“The SCO represented the SCO, which represents the SCO and its practical implementation is rather ambiguous,” said Manoj Kaulmani, chairperson of the Hindu Pacific Research Program in the think tank of the Takshila Institution in Bangalore.
