LONDON/CIF: European leader will join Wolodmemeer Zelinsky to meet Donald Trump in Washington, trying to advance Zilnski’s position on Sunday, as the US president accepted Ukraine to end Europe’s deadliest war in 80 years.
After meeting with the Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Trump is leaning on Zilnsky and joined Moscow more with a peace deal instead of a ceasefire. Trump and Zilnsky will meet on Monday.
“If peace is not possible here and continues as a war, people will continue to die by thousands of people,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio interviewed CBS’s “Face The Nation”. We can unfortunately walk there, but we do not want to go there. “
Trump promised “great progress on Russia” in a social media post on Sunday, what could happen.
A briefing about Moscow’s thinking told Reuters that the United States and Russian leaders have discussed suggestions for Russia to withdraw from small pockets of Ukraine occupied by Ukraine, saying it is a fabric of land closed in the east and freezing the next lines.
Trump’s top officials indicated that the fate of the Ukraine’s East Donbas region – which includes Donetsk and Lohnsk, who was already under Russian control – was on the line, while a defense agreement was on the table.
“We were able to get the following privileges, that the United States could offer protection like Article 5,” Trump’s Elemento Steve Watticov told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, suggesting that it would be Ukraine to seek NATO membership. “The United States can offer the protection of Article 5, which was the first time we had ever heard the Russians agree.”
Article 5 of the NATO founder contract includes the principle of collective defense – the idea that an attack on a member is considered an attack on them all.
It may not be enough to sign the Donbas in the covenant. Ukraine’s borders were already being guaranteed when Ukraine handed over the Soviet -era nuclear weapons in 1994, and when Russia absorbed Crimea in 2014 and then launched its full attack in 2022. Now the war has killed or injured more than 3-1/2 years.
German Chancellor Frederick Mirz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Kerr Star on Sunday hosted a meeting of the allies to bold Zilnski’s hand, especially hoping that Ukraine will stop strong security guarantees, which will include US role.
European is seeking to help Zilinsky avoid his last Oval Office meeting in February. This happened, Trump and Vice President JD Venus accused the Ukrainian leader of giving a public dressing down, accusing him of being ungrateful and humiliated.
European Commission President Ursola Van Dare Leene will also travel to Washington, such as Willeland’s President Alexander Stubb, who had a golf cycle in Florida earlier this year, and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, who is a fan of many Trump’s policies.
“It is important that Washington be with us,” Zilnsky said on a visit to Brussels, saying that the current front lines in the war should be the basis of peace talks.
“Putin doesn’t want to stop killing, but he should do it.”
Steel Porkpine
Determining the red lines, Van Der Leean said Ukrainian allies want strong security guarantee for Ukraine, Ukrainian Armed Forces have no limit, and a seat on the table with Trump and Putin for Ukraine to discuss their area.
“As I have said often, Ukraine must become a steel porkpine, which is indiscriminate for potential invaders,” he said.
Rubio said both Russia and Ukraine will need to give concessions to reach the peace deal, and security guarantees for Ukraine will be discussed on Monday. He also said that if no agreement was reached, additional results would be available for Russia.
“I am not saying that we are on the path to a peace deal, but I am saying that we have seen a movement to justify the pursuit of pursuit with Zilinski and European people, which is enough for us to devote more time,” Rubio told CBS.
However, he said that the United States may not be able to create a scenario to end the war.
“If peace is not possible here and it is just a war, people will continue to die by thousands of people … we can unfortunately wrap there, but we do not want to be summed up there,” Robio said in an interview with “face -of -nation”.
‘Great power’
On his behalf, Putin apprised his close ally, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko about Alaska’s talks, and also spoke to Kasim Jammut Tokif, President of Kazakhstan.
Trump said Friday that Ukraine should make a deal to end the war because “Russia is a great power, and they are not.”
After the Alaska summit, Trump called Zilnski and said that the Kremlin chief said a source familiar with the matter said that if Ukraine was one of Moscow’s main targets, Ukraine had offered to present all Donetsk.
Zilnski rejected the demand. Russia already controls the fifth of Ukraine, which includes about three -quarters of Donetsk province, which it first entered in 2014.
Trump also said he had agreed with Putin that Ukraine and its European allies had demanded that a peace deal should be signed without a pre -ceasefire. This was the opposite of his position before the summit, when he said he would not be happy until a ceasefire was agreed.
