WASHINGTON/BERLIN: US President Donald Trump has said he is ready to talk to both Russian and Ukrainian counterparts – Vladimir Putin and Woldmeer Zelinski shortly after meeting with a Russian leader in Alaska.
He called the planned follow -up an opportunity to gather all parties quickly if the first round of talks is fine.
If Russia’s Vladimir Putin stopped peace in Ukraine, Trump also threatened “serious consequences”. However, he did not specify what the results could be, but he has warned about economic sanctions if a meeting between himself and President Putin in Alaska on Friday proved fruitless.
After the virtual meeting of Trump, European leaders and President Woldmeer Zelaninski, Trump and Mood Music Comments can provide some hopes for KEF when Alaska can sell it to Ukraine and build its area.
However, it is likely that Russia will strongly resist the demands of Ukraine and Europe, and its position has not changed before because Putin presented it in June 2024.
When asked if Russia would face any consequences if Putin was not willing to stop the war after Friday, Trump replied: “Yes, they will do.”
Asked if these results would be sanctions or taxes, Trump told reporters: “I do not have to say that, it will have very severe consequences.”
But the President also termed the purpose of the meeting between the pair in Alaska as a “table setting” for immediate pursuit, which would include Zilnski.
“If the first is fine, we will have a second task,” he said.
“I would like to do it immediately, and if they want to keep me there, there will be another immediate meeting between President Putin and President Zilnski and himself.”
Trump did not provide a timeframe for the second meeting.
Red lines
European leaders and Zelannski had previously spoke with Trump in the last Dutch call in Germany hosted by Alaska to put red lines before the Alaska meeting.
Trump said, “We had a good call. He was on the call. President Zillski was on the call. I will give him 10, very friendly.”
French President Emmanuel Macron said that Trump agreed that Ukraine must be involved in any debate about seeding land, while Zillski said Trump had supported the idea of security guarantees in the post -war settlement.
“President Trump was clear that the United States wants to get a ceasefire at the meeting in Alaska,” Macron said.
“The second point on which matters were very clear, as President Trump expressed, is that areas belonging to Ukraine cannot be discussed and only the president of Ukraine will talk.”
German Chancellor Frederick Mirz, who hosted the Virtual Meeting, said the principle that borders could not be changed by force.
“If there is no movement from Russian in Alaska, then the United States and we Europeans should increase the pressure,” he said.
“President Trump knows this position, he shares it very extensively and that’s why I can say: We have had a really extraordinary constructive and good conversation with each other.”
Trump and Putin will discuss ways to end the three -and -a -half -year conflict, which is Europe’s largest since World War II. Trump has earlier said that both sides will have to change the land to end the fight, which has cost tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions.
Russia moved fast in Ukraine
One day of intense diplomacy, Zillsky flew to Berlin for virtual meetings with European leaders and then Trump.
He and the European residents fear that the exchange of land can leave Russia at around fifth in Ukraine, and has taken advantage of nearly 11 years of efforts to occupy Ukraine’s land, which encourages Putin to expand the last three in the war, and to expand the West in the future.
In recent times, Russian forces have pledged a heavy emphasis in eastern Ukraine, which can try to increase pressure on Kiev to abandon the land.
“I told the US president and all our European colleagues that Putin was doing bluffing (about his desire to end the war),” Zilnsky said. “He is trying to put pressure before a meeting in Alaska in all parts of the Ukrainian front. Russia is trying to show that it can occupy all Ukraine …”
A source familiar with the matter said that the call with Trump discussed potential cities, depending on the results of the talks in Alaska, can host a three -way meeting.
Careful to offend Trump, European leaders have repeatedly said that they welcome their efforts, while emphasizing that Ukraine should not be a matter of Ukraine without Ukraine’s participation.
Trump’s contract from the summit last week was a sudden change after expressing weeks of frustration with Putin over resisting the US peace move. Trump said his envoy to Moscow has made “great progress”.
A gallup survey released last week found that 69 % of Ukraine people are in favor of ending talks for war as soon as possible. But Paul also indicates that Ukraine people do not want peace at any cost if it means crushing privileges.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexei Fadeef had earlier said that Moscow’s position had not changed since last year.
As the ceasefire and the beginning of the negotiations, the Kremlin leader demanded that Ukraine withdraw its forces from four regions that Russia claimed to have claimed but does not fully control it, and does not formally abandon its plans to join NATO.
Kiev rapidly described the situation as surrendering.
